A striking, robust porter full of warmth and chocolate malt. Eugene is a robust porter named after Eugene V. Debs, an American union leader and activist who led the Pullman Railroad strike in 1894. An assortment of Belgian specialty malts form a complex structure of toasted grain and caramel flavors. Dark chocolate malt makes this porter black as night and infuses it with its distinct intense, chocolate essence.

On tap at the brewpub.A serviceable porter. Dark brown to black coloured body with a bit of head, lacey. Licorice and chocolate. Above average mouthfeel. Carbonation was right there. Decent drinkability, but I am coming out here paying good money and time to get something bold not something I could take out of the fridge for a couple of dollars.

A very nice porter with a bit more creaminess and a nice robust flavor but not extremely bitter or anything, just a smooth one.

This beer and I have a lot in common. Draft at the sourse. Very dark brown color, thin beige head, nice lacing. Aroma of hot cocoa with a bit of espresso. Taste is coffee and milk chocolate. Decent stuff.

The nut-malt flavor was the big thing that stood out for me. Medium bodied and non-intrusive, meaning it didnít hit you too hard but it still had a nice taste. I had a taster glass of it at Monkís in Chicagoís loop, and Iíd definitely order this again at Revolutionís Brewpub.

Tap at Monkís Pub in Chicago on Dec. 5, 2011. Very dark pour with a smaller white head. Big aroma of roast, coffee, and slight sweetness. Medium smooth palate. Great taste of cocoa and roast coffee. Excellent porter.

Draft at Revolution. Dark brown, thinnest white ring, lightly oily. Nose is charcoal, chocolate, bit of anise and roast. Flavor has heavy chocolate by comparison, bit of rotten earth, yeasty and bitter through the finish. With warmth comes more alcohol and yeast, chalky dry finish thatís bitter and slightly balanced. My rating comes off way more muddled than the beer did, which was in fact quite nice.

A deep dark porter with a thin brown head. In aroma, a sweet powdery chocolate with light dark fruits. In mouth, a smooth sweet fruity chocolate, powdery, some off astringency, a bit cloying. On tap at brewpub, Nov. 11 2011.

Pours dark brown, deep ruby with thick light brown head and great retention. Aroma is coffee, dark chocolate, mildly aggressive roast. Taste is green hops, chocolate cake, coffee. Body is medium, creamy, slick, average carbonation, dry roasted finish. Overall, my first brew from revolution and a fantastic one.

Had this from a growler that I filled at Rev. Pours a dark chocolate color with a dark head Pungent and rich nose of roasted coffee, chocolate, toffee and various malt tones Full bodied with a real smooth feel. Richer, but far from boozy with mostly roasted coffee and chocolate flavors This is a quality porter that Rev has year round. Balanced, and though it is rich it is far from boozy.
