A striking, robust porter full of warmth and chocolate malt. Eugene is a robust porter named after Eugene V. Debs, an American union leader and activist who led the Pullman Railroad strike in 1894. An assortment of Belgian specialty malts form a complex structure of toasted grain and caramel flavors. Dark chocolate malt makes this porter black as night and infuses it with its distinct intense, chocolate essence.

Draft at Revolution. Dark brown, thinnest white ring, lightly oily. Nose is charcoal, chocolate, bit of anise and roast. Flavor has heavy chocolate by comparison, bit of rotten earth, yeasty and bitter through the finish. With warmth comes more alcohol and yeast, chalky dry finish that’s bitter and slightly balanced. My rating comes off way more muddled than the beer did, which was in fact quite nice.

A deep dark porter with a thin brown head. In aroma, a sweet powdery chocolate with light dark fruits. In mouth, a smooth sweet fruity chocolate, powdery, some off astringency, a bit cloying. On tap at brewpub, Nov. 11 2011.

Pours dark brown, deep ruby with thick light brown head and great retention. Aroma is coffee, dark chocolate, mildly aggressive roast. Taste is green hops, chocolate cake, coffee. Body is medium, creamy, slick, average carbonation, dry roasted finish. Overall, my first brew from revolution and a fantastic one.

Had this from a growler that I filled at Rev. Pours a dark chocolate color with a dark head Pungent and rich nose of roasted coffee, chocolate, toffee and various malt tones Full bodied with a real smooth feel. Richer, but far from boozy with mostly roasted coffee and chocolate flavors This is a quality porter that Rev has year round. Balanced, and though it is rich it is far from boozy.

Draft pours dark brown in color with a lasting one-finger tan head and some lacing. The aroma is typical of an American porter, roasty and chocolaty with some earthiness. The flavor is moderately intense with a mildly sweet chocolate base and some roast/char notes that add a dryness. Medium-bodied and fairly drying with average carbonation. A good beer overall.

16oz pour at the Cultivate Festival. Light nose of roasted malts. Dark brown body with a beige head. Roasted malts chocolate flavors sweet with bitter roast and cola finish. Too much sweet malt and cola flavors.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours deep brown with a small creamy light tan head. Aroma is roasty and chocolatey, very smooth, a light bit of dark fruit, and a bit woody and some burnt toast in there. Flavor is much the same, a nice bit of a creamy cocoa and touches of coffee along with a sharp burnt toast and sweet molasses. Finishes a touch bitter with some woody earthy hops. Medium to medium full body and a soft carbonation. A well done porter

Tap. Pours black with a medium, fizzy light tan head, short retention and light lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (coffee, chocolate, roast), faint woody hops, and notes of dates and prunes. Flavor is malty, chocolate, and somewhat sweet. Medium body and carbonation, low warmth with a sweet to dry finish.
