COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A striking, robust porter full of warmth and chocolate malt. Eugene is a robust porter named after Eugene V. Debs, an American union leader and activist who led the Pullman Railroad strike in 1894. An assortment of Belgian specialty malts form a complex structure of toasted grain and caramel flavors. Dark chocolate malt makes this porter black as night and infuses it with its distinct intense, chocolate essence.

Had on tap at Palmer Place. Served in a shaker pint. A: Pours a dark black with a thick mocha head. Sticky lace is left down the side of the glass. S: Smells of light cocoa and coffee fill the nose with a touch of roasted malts. There is also a hint of sweet vanilla. T: Roasted malts are complimented with a nice mocha flavor and some milk chocolate. There is a little bit of vanilla sweetness in the middle and some minimal dark fruits towards the backend. M: Medium bodied with a full flavor. There is a little prickly carbonation to play with a tongue a bit and keep it interesting. O: A very solid and flavorful porter. High drinkability. I recommend. On draft at the brewery, poured a dark brown, almost black color aromas of roast, chocolate, and earth. Flavors are the same, just lighter than the aroma suggests. Nice porter overall.

Pouts black with nice thick layer of chocolate head. Great looking pour. Deep aroma of coffee/chocolate. Taste same thing, amazingly good. One of the better porters I remember having. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sampled at Rock Bottom Warrenville’s Popfest, showing a black/brown hue, decent, creamy, brownish tan head foam, and nice cling to the sheet-like lacing. The nose was smooth roastiness with expressive cocoa notes and some light smoke & char. A little less than medium bodied and medium hop bitterness, with some lingering dryness attached. Smooth & flavorful, and not normally the kind of style that I would go to on such a hot day, but it came off rather sessionable, and paired nicely with a gourmet, deep chocolate popcorn.

Draught at brewpub. Strong roast taste. Chocolate. Burnt to it as well. Not a heavy body. Some vanilla. Some taste of barrel. Really liked it.
