COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A striking, robust porter full of warmth and chocolate malt. Eugene is a robust porter named after Eugene V. Debs, an American union leader and activist who led the Pullman Railroad strike in 1894. An assortment of Belgian specialty malts form a complex structure of toasted grain and caramel flavors. Dark chocolate malt makes this porter black as night and infuses it with its distinct intense, chocolate essence.

12oz can, pours black 2 inch tan head. Smooth and creamy feel, a little on the thin or light side for a porter, but a great tasting brew nevertheless. Great balance of malt hop, some complexity in the toasted and caramel flavors. A great beer for those trying a dark beer,

Sampled at the brewpub. It poured a black color with a white head. The aroma was of toasted and roasted malts with some sweetness and a hint of coffee. The taste was a little bitter with some coffee notes, vanilla and chocolate in the backend. Tasty.

I went to school with Eugene Porter from kindergarten through the fourth grade. I hadn’t given a thought to that little dorky twit since then until Revolution named a beer after him.
The beer is much better than I remember Eugene being. It poured an opaque, deep brown body with a bubbly, sudsy light brown head that settled down into a slender, creamy cap on the brew. It smelled of bittersweet chocolate, chewy dark malt, ash, and a light spiciness. The flavor added an earthy, woody bitterness that peppered the tongue.
Pretty good brew. Much better than the dorky little twit.

Pours a very thin, tan head. Body is black with dark coffee color highlights. Head retention and lacing died very fast and left no trace. First smells are of candied stone fruits like figs and prunes. Sweet crystallized and roasted malts also are in play. Hops are not detected and alcohol is very light. Taste is of tons of sweet dark fruits, i.e. prunes and raisins. Sweet malt is also present with some Belgian yeast in the background. Hops aren’t a factor and alcohol is very light, as in nose. There is a slight soy sauce off taste that lingers unfortunately. Mouthfeel is medium bodied for a porter, beer is well carbonated. Head immediately died so that deducted from its score. Overall, this beer was slightly above average and not anywhere near my top 10 porters I’ve had. The off flavors present negated any good characteristics the beer had. Cool can, so-so beer.

LSU Gameday Tasting. Was more reminiscent of a brown ale than porter in every aspect. Can - Shared at Tasting

Pours black, finger of thick khaki head. Aroma rich, roast, chocolate, coffee, bready malt. Taste roast most pronounced, smokey, chocolate, coffee and earthy hops in background. Mouthfeel on full side, lower carbonation, dry finish. Overall tasty, complex solid, well made beer.

Nice aroma of chocolate, molasses, and some coffee. Nice black pour with a tan head. Sweet roasted malt is the first hit. Balanced well with a smooth bitterness on the end. Slick mouth feel, finishes with a nice dry bitterness....some of the sweetness lingers nicely also. Strong offering.

From a bottle. Delicious, on the light side, but full of flavor. Creamy mouthfeel, very fresh.
