12/27/13. 12oz can from Milan Hy Vee. Black pour with a nice khaki head. Nice aroma, some roasted malts, biscuity, caramel, hints of chocolate and coffee. Nice flavor, plenty of chocolate, coffee, biscuity and caramel maltiness, creamy in a way. Good stuff.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Can from Save On. Dark brown with ring and a little lace. Chocolatey cocoa powder dark fruit and mild spicy hops aroma. Very sweet chocolate caramel fruityness with earthy fruity slightly roasted bitterness. Oily thick sweet cloying mouthfeel. Too sweet for me and even a little hot for the abv. Seems like it can’t decide whether to be imperial or not.

Tap at Revolution. Look like a stout in the pint glass. Rather large tan head with good retention. Nose really tempts you to indulge. Milk chocolate, mild notes of herbal/ green coffee beans and deep roasted grain. The flavor gives me nearly every flavor of deep roasted malts. Dark chocolate, slight char, molasses, coffee grounds and this is all balance with a light Earthy, dirty herbal hop. The mouthfeel is medium too heavy for the style. Carbonation gives a mildly creamy texture…. Yeah, this is good!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very nice dark brown body with a thick, four centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of strong chocolate, celery (odd), alcohol, cherries and some milk. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong chocolate and roasted malt flavour with milk, cherries, oak, vanilla and some lighter coffee flavours noticeable. Aftertaste shows a well-rounded malt note with some deeper alcohol, cacao, nuts, earth and a light mushroomy flavour. Overall, a very nice and strong porter with a lot of flavour and complexity and some smooth and subtle sweetness that packs a punch. Definitely worth trying if you can find it and well worth suitcase space if you aren’t from here! I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Binny’s in Chicago (South Loop), Illinois on 21-August-2013 for US$1.67 sampled at home in Washington on 24-November-2013.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap. Clear ruby black, medium tan head, creamy with nice lacing. Aroma is roasty, cigarettes, coffee, molasses, a bit of smoke. Medium sweet, light bitter, a bit of acidity, rich and full. Very roasty, but I am not getting chocolate as much as dark sugars, a bit of tobacco. Medium body, creamy and lovely.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Got this on the recommendation of one of the salespeople at The Andersons in Columbus Ohio.
Poured from can (yes can) into tulip glass. Very dark pour that foamed up a bit but quickly faded into a thin ring.
Aromas of bread, malt, toast, leather, soy, coffee. Taste is very bready at first followed by coffee, malt and cocoa. Slightly bitter and salty but pleasant.
A bit thinner than some porters that I’ve had. Medium to light body, texture is thin, creamy. Fairly active soft carbonation. Lingering finish...soy and coffee.
All in all quite good but just doesn’t strike me as a true porter.

Tap at Revolution Brewing, Milwaulkee Ave, Chicago. Poured a dark brown colour with a thin round light tan head. The aroma is weak roasted malt. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a huge malt liqourice palate. Not bad at all.

Pours almost black. Aroma is chocolate, coffee grounds. Really smooth chocolate with a hint of lactose for a nice medium full mouth. Finishes a bit sweet and with not much on the roasted side. Pretty nice for a canned porter.
