COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A striking, robust porter full of warmth and chocolate malt. Eugene is a robust porter named after Eugene V. Debs, an American union leader and activist who led the Pullman Railroad strike in 1894. An assortment of Belgian specialty malts form a complex structure of toasted grain and caramel flavors. Dark chocolate malt makes this porter black as night and infuses it with its distinct intense, chocolate essence.

12 oz can, Andersons. Dark cola pour; one-finger almost-fizzy brown head dissipates into nothing; nearly no lacing; lightly glass-coating upon swirling. Cola, black malt, chocolate, brown sugar, light roast. Nothing is terribly intense about this but it is full-flavored and full-bodied, and reasonably complex.

Pours a very thin, tan head. Body is black with dark coffee color highlights. Head retention and lacing died very fast and left no trace. First smells are of candied stone fruits like figs and prunes. Sweet crystallized and roasted malts also are in play. Hops are not detected and alcohol is very light. Taste is of tons of sweet dark fruits, i.e. prunes and raisins. Sweet malt is also present with some Belgian yeast in the background. Hops arenít a factor and alcohol is very light, as in nose. There is a slight soy sauce off taste that lingers unfortunately. Mouthfeel is medium bodied for a porter, beer is well carbonated. Head immediately died so that deducted from its score. Overall, this beer was slightly above average and not anywhere near my top 10 porters Iíve had. The off flavors present negated any good characteristics the beer had. Cool can, so-so beer.

LSU Gameday Tasting. Was more reminiscent of a brown ale than porter in every aspect. Can - Shared at Tasting

Pours black, finger of thick khaki head. Aroma rich, roast, chocolate, coffee, bready malt. Taste roast most pronounced, smokey, chocolate, coffee and earthy hops in background. Mouthfeel on full side, lower carbonation, dry finish. Overall tasty, complex solid, well made beer.

Nice aroma of chocolate, molasses, and some coffee. Nice black pour with a tan head. Sweet roasted malt is the first hit. Balanced well with a smooth bitterness on the end. Slick mouth feel, finishes with a nice dry bitterness....some of the sweetness lingers nicely also. Strong offering.

From a bottle. Delicious, on the light side, but full of flavor. Creamy mouthfeel, very fresh.

Quickly desalinating light brown in a dark black/brown body. Decent brew made with lake Michigan water which I feel and have heard is a great way to start the process. I feel it is a bit light on malts as well as hops, or would of rated much higher.

Can via trade. Frank or rxeight. Canít remember. can to snifter. ton of milk chocolate in the nose up front. fades a little quickly and leaves a darker more bitter chocolate aroma. medium light brown head on a dark brown beer. Taste is initially quite bitter with a light chocolate and dark chocolate flavor. upon second sip it all comes together to reveal a very balanced bitter and milky chocolate harmony. semi sweet finish that quenches the palate. no noticeable alcohol. very solid beer.

Outed from can. Opaque brown with a non existent head and ruby hints. Aroma of chocolate, olives and malts. Flavour is dark malts and sweetness on the edges of a nicely bitter and hot finish. Great.

Can poured into tulip. Clear dark brown with light brown foamy head. Mild roast nutty aroma. Light roast coffe and nut flavor. Actually kind of bland in the flavor department. Smooth and immensely drinkable though.
