A striking, robust porter full of warmth and chocolate malt. Eugene is a robust porter named after Eugene V. Debs, an American union leader and activist who led the Pullman Railroad strike in 1894. An assortment of Belgian specialty malts form a complex structure of toasted grain and caramel flavors. Dark chocolate malt makes this porter black as night and infuses it with its distinct intense, chocolate essence.

Roasted chocolate malt, light smoke and faint hop aroma. Nice dark brown pour, froth tan head from a tap. Sweet coffee and chocolate taste, nice bitter contrast. Creamy, filling body, yet easily drinkable. One of the better non-hop bombs I have tried lately.

12 oz. can. Dark, opaque brown, with a medium, bubbly, light brown head. The aroma is roasted coffee, molasses, a bit of licorice, chicory, and very light tart cherries. Sweet, with a light roasted bitterness. Medium to heavy body, syrupy, acerbic, and a little harsh. This is a nice, lightly roasted, easy porter.

Can. Downtown Chicago pours almost black with a small tan head and sparse lacing. Nose of coca and light roasty notes. Flavors of chocolate coca and roast. Big body lush. Bold finish plenty of lingering chocolate and char. Solid porter.

Can. Opaque brown black pour with thick frothy creamy tan foam. Aroma is malty, tons of molasses, chocolate and caramel, very light roast, light leather. Taste is sweet, malty, mild roast malt acidity which is too bad. Palate is med bodied with good carbonation. Good.

Can at home. Deep aroma of chocolate cake and sweet coffee. The flavor is overly sweet throughout. Mostly picking up on chocolaty and coffee notes. Kind of one dimensional. Lacks that ashy woody smoky charred flavor of the best porters. The finish is underhopped.

Black pour, tan head. Chocolate and bread aroma very thick head which retains for awhile. Chocolate hits first. Roasted malts follow. Some lighter Caramel notes detected. Perfect mouth feel for the style

Can from Mitsuya’s. Drank straight from the can. Roasted malt armoas with some root beer, espresso and caco. Body is very porter like, with a root beer like carbonation. Dry and roasty with some mild bacon on the finish. Very enjoyable.
