A striking, robust porter full of warmth and chocolate malt. Eugene is a robust porter named after Eugene V. Debs, an American union leader and activist who led the Pullman Railroad strike in 1894. An assortment of Belgian specialty malts form a complex structure of toasted grain and caramel flavors. Dark chocolate malt makes this porter black as night and infuses it with its distinct intense, chocolate essence.

Iíve never had anything from these guys, and Iím always up for trying new brew. Can poured into a chalice. Pours a thick deep black, with just a sheet of lace on the top after what I thought was an aggressive pour. Bits of lace cling to the glass. The nose is full of roasted goodness: ground coffee, chocolate malt, toasted bread, and a kiss of sweet vanilla on the finish. Good hefty body. Chewy but easy to drink. Good bubble play on the palate. Big milk chocolate flavors all over this beer. Some mild roastedness rounds it out a bit. Iíve had far too many Porters that are heavy on the roasted aspect and it just wears on you, but this one is perfectly balanced, even erring on the side of a little more sweet. Some vanilla and almond noted as well. Really a stand out beer here. Were this available to me locally, I think Iíd have regular stock of this in my fridge as my go-to dark beer.

Eugene porter is a great tasting beer. The coffee malt aroma is great and the near black color suggests a very bold taste that is not overstated. I loved the beer and would recommend it to anyone.

Draft at the Lizardville in Akron. Pint glass. Pours a deep black with thin mocha head. Aroma is slightly burnt malts, caramel, dark cocoa nibs, and vanilla. Taste similar with the roasted malts, caramel, vanilla, and dark chocolate. Great moderate mouth and carb. Finish is slight smokiness. Very nice.

On tap at Revolution Brewery. Almost opaque black with a minimal head. Smoked, roasted aroma with hints of coffee, dried fruits. Robust bodied with moderate carbonation. Dry and with a great smoked character, even the slightest sourness to make it a perfect porter. Very pleasant chocolate malt aftertaste. A fine porter.
