4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Iíve never had anything from these guys, and Iím always up for trying new brew. Can poured into a chalice.
Pours a thick deep black, with just a sheet of lace on the top after what I thought was an aggressive pour. Bits of lace cling to the glass. The nose is full of roasted goodness: ground coffee, chocolate malt, toasted bread, and a kiss of sweet vanilla on the finish.
Good hefty body. Chewy but easy to drink. Good bubble play on the palate. Big milk chocolate flavors all over this beer. Some mild roastedness rounds it out a bit. Iíve had far too many Porters that are heavy on the roasted aspect and it just wears on you, but this one is perfectly balanced, even erring on the side of a little more sweet. Some vanilla and almond noted as well.
Really a stand out beer here. Were this available to me locally, I think Iíd have regular stock of this in my fridge as my go-to dark beer.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours an almost opaque dark cola color with a big tan head and nice lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with a slight burnt character, umami and dark chocolate. Tastes of roasted malt with slight smokey and burnt flavor. And just a bit of sweetness. Also umami, dark chocolate and some coffee with moderate amount of roasty bitterness. Finishes semi dry with some roasty bitterness. Mouthfeel is semi creamy with a medium/full body and moderate carbonation. Nice porter with big flavors.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
One of those porters whose head comes out in varying shades of cappuccino, rather pretty. Solid black beer underneath. Smell is a little light, but shows up with some chocolate roast malt at first sniff. Taste is of bitter cocoa and coffee, balanced by a little milk sugar sweetness. So thereís some grainy harshness from black malt, with a little support from some sweetness. I find myself liking it more than I would something with black bitter malt, but perhaps the balance again is speaking to me. Nit much in the way of individual hops to find.

Draft pour dark opaque brown with thin light tan head. Nose very light roast. Not much else. Taste some roast, but more metallic. Not as much as roast and chocolate I like. Mild roasty bitter finish.

> Odd plum and sarsaparilla bubbly Porter
[ Can ][ 12oz ][ northernbrews ][ Trade ][ Brewbies Half Irish Pint ][ 6.14.14 ]
>> Pours deep cola, good tan foam, soda carbonation. Nose is sarsaparilla, licorice, plum, odd like an aged Abbey Dubbel with so much plum. Taste is oily, mild roast, dark cherry, booze. Chalky, dusty mouthfeel. Good, simple. Odd flavor combinations though.

Pours a black thick head. Has a nice rich choclate, roasted coffe aroma. Has a taste of sweet bread, chocolate, malt, smoke, and coffee. Is a little bitter finish. Overall a solid choice.
