Today we’re releasing Fistcal Cliff, an IPA brewed in collaboration with Half Acre, Three Floyds, and Bluejacket for the 2013 Craft Brewers Conference. This brew proves that multiple parties can indeed create something beautifully balanced. Each brewery provided their own hops and we dry-hopped it twice with hops from Hop Head Farms. Our Brewmaster Jim Cibak calls this a "deceptively drinkable hoppy ale" with flavors and aromas of spring flowers, a smorgasbord of fresh citrus, and a faint hint of mint.

Draft pour on tap at the Kedzie Avenue Tap Room (Chicago, IL). Pours a well carbonated and lively glowing amber hue, a touch lighter, some mellow haziness, orange gold bottom and a frothy offwhite layer atop films a bit, stays small and laces ok. Aromas are oranges and tangerines, some grapefruit, earthy hops and some touches of bready and pale malts, cereal grains. More grapefruit and orange, some lemon, touch of tropical fruit. Inviting nose for me that has a hop driven fruit appeal. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, firm hopping is bitter and grapefruit driven up front quickly rolling into oranges, fruit, a bit of sweetness. Firm dry bitterness tapers off a bit into the middle. Cereal grains, bready, and some gentle sweetness. Fruit sweetness, citrusy orange and grapefruit. Florals, grass, a touch of cotton candy sweetness but not offensive. Backend is citrus juices, grapefruit rind, a firm dry bitterness. A bit sweeter, dulled elements as we taper off. Some citrus juice, florals, touches of bready malts, bit of toastiness. Lemon, tapering bitterness is solid yet dying out. A pretty solid IPA, the front end and nose are the winners for me. A touch fleeting as we move in and finish up. Solid with a fun hop bill, though the malt offering seems a bit unfocused and interferes a bit with that more robust, complex hop profile.

Had this on draft at the revolution taproom/brewery. Orange clear bubby pour. Pine and citrus aroma. Bitter hoppy and floral. Perfect beer

Draft sample shared with northropfrye at brewpub in Chicago. I’ve learned to enjoy IPAs, even if it’s not my favourite style. I enjoyed how floral and spicy this one was.

Draft at The rev pub. Pours brilliant gold with a sticky white head. Nose is classic American hops. Lemon rind and citrus. Resiny. Quite clean, low malt. Generic IPA, but in a good way. On taste, has that somewhat cloying hop acid profile. Lemon peel and grapefruit. Light sweetness and noted alcohol. Not a fan of the hop profile here as its got a petrol note to it. Different hops next time, wonder if this is some of last years citra that’s doing it...

A great colloboration IPA. Everything you’d want in an IPA (and a drugstore...sorry, my bad, obscure Canadian joke), clearish body, great resinous bitter, balanced IPA.

Tap at Churchkey for CBC. Poured a golden color with a nice fluffy white head. Aroma was plenty of tropical fruit notes - really hoppy. Plenty of citrus in this one, touch of resin. Flavor was hops, lots of hops. A little chewy. Citrus, tropical fruit notes.

Draft on March 27th, 2013 at Churchkey. Aroma of citrus. Medium amount of bitterness, balanced. Drinkable IPA, not amazing.
