3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sampled at Mackey’s Hideout in Island Lake. Pours a tannish brown with no head. Aroma has spices, cloves, cardamon and faint fruits. Taste is quite cardamon-y, with a ginger ale presence. Shrug? Holidayish, sure.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasted from a 12oz. can. It poured a deep amber with a frothy, off-white head and spotty lacing. A sweet caramel-malt aroma and a spicy malt taste.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Had it out of a can. Poured a brownish clear hue with a medium brownish head. It has a hop and pine aroma and the taste is hop sour yet smooth.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Amber brown color, ample head. Aroma is slightly sweet hinting of ginger. Taste is well balanced between the malts, hops, orange and ginger. The finish is crisp and faintly hoppy. This is one of the best holiday beers I had yet.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Ellyn’s Tap & Grill in Glen Ellyn, IL. and dispensed to a shaker showing a bright & clear, walnut color, only a modest layer of quickly diminishing, off white, bubbly head foam, but good cling to the wavy ribbons of lacing. The nose was piney, orange zest, with caramel & brown sugar sweetness. Moderately bitter, with some citrusy astringency, medium body, and lively carbonation. A touch of tartness, hop bitterness, and gingered sweetness lingered into the finish. Maybe a little too sweet imo, but a crisp and flavorful holiday brew nonetheless.

2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
UPDATED: NOV 28, 2013 I like this beer but it?s not what I expected from a Christmas ale. It?s definitely one of the better IPA?s I?ve had.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice reddish amber color with a very smooth finish. Not as crazy as some of their other beers. Has a slightly fruity taste but not overpowering

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Revolution’s page for this beer says it’s got the aroma of fresh baked bread, caramel, and stone fruits. To me, it’s as though someone squeezed all the moisture and aroma from a Christmas tree and poured it into a glass. The flavor follows that. It’s hoppy and piney, and nothing at all like I expect a Christmas ale to taste. I was grateful that I’d only purchased a 5 ounce sample and not a full pint of it. This beer would be the lump of coal I’d put in the stockings of beer lovers I hate.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cereal, resin, spruce, grapefruit, and a touch of ginger in the aroma. None are pronounced, but meld well. Pours well, settling into an amber haze with a frothy dirty white pillow of a head. A taste reveals the ginger, with light sweetness and light bitterness on the finish, but the ginger is what lingers. The body is medium to light, texture is slick, carbonation is average, and the finish is slightly bitter. A bit of a departure from other Christmas beers, but a welcome departure.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Another excellent entry to this year’s Holiday & Winter beer selection. Possibly the best Christmas beer that I have had in recent years. A full body beer similar to an IPA with a crisp, fruity flavor. A Definite Must for the serious beer drinker.
