4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 holdenn (2023) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 22, 2012Snifter at the pub. Pours a rich black with a tan ring of a head. Chocolate, roast, charred aroma with a light creaminess. The flavors are balanced really well. Lots of chocolate roast that’s balanced with creamy chocolate and bitterness. Not overly sweet or boozy. Good stuff.

This poured a very dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma was dark roasted malts, brown sugar, lots of alcohol and some dark chocolate. Flavor was very strong and in the fce, lots of residual sugar, though somewhat burnt, and a good amount of alcohol. Solid big beer.

Sample at the brewpub. Brownish-black color with a medium foamy tan head that diminishes steadily to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and hops. Full-bodied with a roasty character and flavors of charred malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Touches of hops in the background. The finish is moderately bitter with a coffee aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Draft at Brewery. The pours is dark with nice head. The aroma is mostly malt. The taste is high class for a porter. One of the better porters I have had. Some nice dark fruit notes. The finish is nice as well.

Deep rich brown color with a foam dark tan head. The aroma is very bitter with notes of cocoa. The taste has a lot of coffee presence and toasty toffee. It finishes a bit dry and leaves the next sip to be desired. I like this quite better than the original draught version. Earlier Rating: 11/10/2012 Total Score: 2.4 Pours thin brown but with a large creamy head that unfortunately dissipates quickly. Mediciny aroma carmely and.sweet with a lot of alcohol. Sweet molasses malty flavor with a warming alcohol effect. Pretty stiff and sweet.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ccex (797) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 8, 2012
Snifter on tap at the brewery. Pours a thick black color with a small tan head and little lacing. Aroma is full of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts with perhaps some raisins and prunes. Full bodied with slight carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel. Flavor is almost that of an imperial stout, but sweeter, with slight bitterness in the finish. A very well done imperial porter.

8/11/12. GTMW. Rich black pour with a nice tan head. Rich chocolate and coffee in the aroma with just a lingering touch of hop bitterness and character. Rich, luxurious flavor with plenty of dark chocolate, coffee, and a hint of hop character. I really enjoyed this brew and many of their offerings at GTMW 2012!
