Sample at the brewpub. This brew is a clear reddish-bronze color with a medium white head that dissipates slowly. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of fruit and caramel malt. Full-bodied with flavors of grainy malt, resiny hops and fruit. The finish is malty up front with a piney hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

Clear dark copper with a thin off white head that clears to the edges, forms a small lake but retains fairly well thereafter.
Nose of sweet caramel malt, dark sugars, toffee, spice, fudge, prune, dates.
Tastes of sweet sugars, dark toffee, booze, dark fruits, prunes, dates.
Full bodied with fine carbonation leading to a sweet and boozey finish.
An OK barley wine but a little over sweet and the alcohol isn’t that well hidden compared to some others.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured a clear reddish amber with a tan head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was surprisingly fruit forward with sweet grains and a bit of alcohol. Flavor was surprisingly fruit forward as well with some red fruits joined by a strong sweet grain and biscuit backbone making for an interesting take on a barley wine.

8/11/12. GTMW. Rich amber pour with a solid khaki head. Rich aroma of sweet and dark fruits with some berries, and plenty of brown sugar, molasses, and malt character. Rich flavor as well with plenty of dark fruits, brown sugar, sweetness, berries, and more. I dig it!

Reddish pour with a tan head. The aroma and flavor have a ton of caramel and toffee as well as some light dark fruit. The flavor also has quite a bit of alcohol and some light brown sugar. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A nice barley wine, but not one that really stands out in any way.

Draft at the brewpub (Chicago, IL) with deyholla. Pours a darker reddish bloody copper, brownish hues dance throughout, quite dark with a bit of haziness, a decent frothy tannish head that dies to a film. Aromas are straight Minute Maid fruit punch, copious apple and red fruits, berries and grapes. Sweeter slanted for sure, with a touch of malty biscuit and toffee. Initial is too sweet, straight off the bat. A boatload of red fruits, apples and cherries, raspberries and grapes mesh into caramel and toffee malts. The beer certainly isn’t too thick and cloying, it just doesn’t come together for me and comes off pretty sweet. A touch medicinal, cough syrup, and biscuity and toffee malts. No hop presence really, as this beer slides to the back of the pack.

Pours a reddish-garnet brown color with a single-finger white head. Pretty good for the style. Low retention time but fades into a nice collar. The nose is really quite nice with a good amount of dark fruits, caramel, molasses, and brown sugar. Really quite sweet in the flavor with some noticeable hops, though not too far over the top. Mouthfeel is nice with a creamy body and nice carbonation. Mild booze throughout. Drinks well. A full snifter of this might be a bit much, but I enjoyed the half glass that I had.

This one poured a medium red to brown color with a beige head. Aroma was of lots of caramel and toffee, with resinus and herbal hops there too. Flavor was very sweet and boozey, almost no amount of hops could cover this up. Just too much and not nearly attenuated enough.

Draft at rev, pours glowing golden amber with off white head. Nose has bubblegum, citrus, melon, and cotton candy. Flavors of over ripe honeydew, cotton candy, bubblegum, fusel alcohol. Sweet syrupy body, big boozy mess down the throat. this is an example of how American barleywines go wrong, lacking bittering hops and poor fermentation. Hopefully, they’ll fix this on their next go round.

Revolution’s new barleywine which was the first beer recommended by the server, sounds great, right? Not such much, what is this mess. The description is an American style English barleywine. The Englishness shows off right away in the aroma which is dead and boring. Light caramel, hops, skunky???...The looks is an ugly clear garnet with a light tan head, great lacing though. Not what a bw should look like...The taste is an equal disaster boring dark fruits, caramel and LOTS of alcohol on the finish.
