From tap. Clean amber in glass. Dried spice and hops on nose. A really hard to place, full, hops profile on taste. Nothing too bitter. First sip is surprising; there is more going on here than olfactory evidence would suggest. Some cream soda. Drinks nicely. Bitter finish.

Interesting take on a pale ale. Really hoppy and not very bitter. Pours a deep orange in color and smells citruscy. One of the better pale ales I have had. Had at revolution

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Revolution. Hazy amber with a creamy tan crown. Aroma is dank and woodsy with pale malts, pine and a hint of grass. Taste is woody with pine, floral hops, caramel, mild noble hops and finishes up smooth and mildly noble.

Tap at Revolution Brewing, Milwaulkee Ave, Chicago. Poured a clear light amber with a thin broke white head. The aroma is hoppy with a hint of melon. The flavour is medium bitter with a liqourice hop zesty spice caramel palate. An interesting pale ale.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The beer has a nice amber color to it, not much haziness with minimal head and lacing. The smell was a mixture of piney notes and some hoppy citrus notes, a mild smell of flowers. The taste starts out hoppy and piney, then starts to get some mild maltiness and a hint of carmel. The mouthfeel lingers with some bitterness and a mild carmel taste that kind of lingers on. Overall, this was a pretty decent adapation of an APA and would recommend for hop heads but not for those that like mild pale ales.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Enjoyed on tap at Rev Brewpub. Served in a pint.
A: Pours a clear golden amber color with a white head forming on the pour. The head has great retention as it sticks around for the entire duration of imbibement. Sticky sheets of lace are left down the glass.
S: Earthy and citrusy with a lemon like citrus to it it. Underlying sweet malts with a good balance to it.
T: Bready malts with a an earthy hop profile. Grassy and grainy, slightly dirty with a nice orange zest balance to it. A sweetness on the back end from the malts provides a nice counter point.
M: Light bodied with a nice medium carbonation level. Sweet malt finish.
O: The younger brother of Double Fist this wasn’t as citrusy, but still was nice and pretty drinkable. Nicely balanced, but a little too earthy for me. I prefer the juiciness of Double Fist.

7/21/2011: Revolution Iron First Pale Ale (dry hopped)... Aroma: Good level of hops: Centennial, Cascade, Chinook, Amarillo without dominating the hint of toasted caramel malt.
