Bottle... Mostly clear, dark brown pour with mahogany highlights and a small, creamy, khaki head. The aroma is a swirl of toffee, caramel and a light measure of mocha. Full-bodied and lightly creamy with busy carbonation. The flavor is a blend of sweet caramel, vanilla and mocha. Decadent, nourishing finish. Bottle courtesy of BBB63!

Bottle on Amtrak Train 27 - The Empire Builder ( from Binny’s South Loop) - 04/11/12. Mid black with a frothy head that clears to the edges. Nose comprises roast malt, chocolate, molasses, liqourice, touch of smoke. Taste of milk chocolate, roast malt, a little hops. Alcohol well disguised for 7.5% ABV! Medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a roast finish. Decent milk stout.

Sample at GABF 10/11/2012, thanks to Bluemeow76 for assistance with note-taking. Blackish pour with a creamy tan head and patchy lacing. Roasted coffee and malt aroma. Medium body with flavors of chocolate malt, coffee and molasses. Sweet malty finish with some mild coffee lingering. Above average overall.

On tap at GTMW. Poured medium brown with a tall, creamy beige head.. looked great! The aroma picked up sweet milky notes, with burnt, darker accents.. milk chocolatey again on the back of the nose. The flavor found warm, milk chocolates throughout, with hints of molasses and honey supporting.. quite milky.. well-balanced.. just what I wanted! Medium-bodied and well-carbonated on the palate.. delicious!

Doesn’t come across too smooth and creamy. But I love it. It is a clean and bitter coffee-like stout.

On tap in Denver for GABF 2012. Pours a black color with a medium tan head. A nice big milky nose with chocolates. The flavor is a rich milk chocolate with light metallic roast, very smooth. Good.

UPDATED: JUN 6, 2010 Draft at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a pretty much pitchblack opaque pour, dark and ominous snifter with a very large khaki head, laces well and cakes. Aromas are a hefty dose of sweet lactose and cocoa, light coffee and roasted malts come in behind, with caramel and smoothed out vanilla, sweet oats, and more creamy lactose sweetness moving in. Initial is medium bodied, a bit nitro’d perhaps, with sweet vanilla and lactose up front, roast and coffee with a touch of ashyness moving in at the backend. More cocoa up front, a touch of caramel, but sweet and bitter chocolate are prevalent, lactose creamy sweetness and a touch of vanilla. Earthy coffee and roasted malts really grow on the backend, making this a sweet stout that balances back towards roast on the backend. Smooth and silky, lingering roastiness and coffee grounds, quite a well balanced sweeter stout in my opinion. Tasty indeed. Probably the 2nd best "Sweet Stout" in regards to overall taste, balance, appearance, palate that I’ve ever had. Really surprised a Sweet Stout (which by nature, is lactose dominant) has such a roasty earthy coffee lingering finish. Very nice beer! I still give the nod to Depth Charge, but this is a great Sweet Stout.
