This seasonal brew was a collaboration with brewers from Haymarket Pub and Brewery. Our golden-hued lager gets its color and rich malt character from the use of 50% Munich malt. Extended color maturation smoothes out the full-bodied honey like maltiness. German Spalt hops provide a balanced bitterness that delicately lingers in the background.

Red pour with a single finger, slightly red head. Lots of carbonation. Grain nose, with a little caramel. Taste is full of caramel, apples, slightly sugary. Alcohol is assertive. Light mouth.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear gold with an orange hue and near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has lots of bread and sweet grain with a hint of grass and cookie. Flavor has a cookie sweet grain combination with sweet grains and a hint of grass.

It just doesn’t seem like traditional versions I have had. THe malt character is too prevalent.

Draft on tap at the Milwaukee Avenue Brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a deeper hued orange amber color, light haziness, darker summer sunset body glows fiercely, mellow carbonation overall. Frothy whitish head atop dies toa film, laces small. Aromas offer gentle earth, bready malts, a faint spiciness. touch of bread, biscuits, earthy and gentle sweeter slant. Fairly clean. Initial is medium bodied, a touch of girth on this one with the bready malts, biscuit, and mellow sweetness. Distinct thouch of thickness in the middle. Faint dried fruit, toastiness into the middle latches onto the palate. Clean overall, gentle earthy hops meet a dry grainy quality as we start to round the corner. A bit of toasty, biscuity, gentle darker slant. A touch thicker, faint butterscotch feel. Finish is a bit more dry, mellow bitterness and toasty feel. Dry, pretty clean. It’s not my style persay, but I think it’s a pretty solid beer.

Pint pour at rev. Faint aroma of caramel and malt. Clean burnt orange appearance with quickly disepating head. Nice crunchy flavor of sweet malt, with hints of toffee and caramel. Slight bitter finish that lingers.

Draft at Haymarket, side by side with the Haymarket version. Neat. Pours a deeper shade of pale. Gold with a sticky white head. Nose is toastier than the HM version, cleaner and earthier. Malt forward. On tasting, moderately low bitterness with a burly malt profile. Medium bodied and crisp finish. Pretty damn fine Maibock, preferred to the HM version.

On tap at the Kedzie Ave. brewery. Pours a dark golden color with average off-white head but hardly any lacing. Aroma has lots of caramel and toffee malts, some honey, and some nuts. Body is medium without too much carbonation. Taste is sweet with a slightly bitter finish. I was hoping for a fuller, wilder flavor after having tried so many winners from this brewery. This one didn’t quite meet my expectations.

Had it on tap at Revolution Brewery, poured a frothy head with no lacing and a caramel aroma and a clear rich amber hue. The taste was light malt with a hint of caramel and a slight sour aftertaste.
