Bottle... Poured dark, near black with a thin head. Nose bourbon notes on the nose. These bourbon characters came through in the flavor of course. Sweet and malty with whiskey booze in there. Chocolate and vanilla sweetness too. What you’d expect from a barrel aged porter.

Tap in a snifter at Village Tap during CCBW. near-black pour with a khaki ring. Vinous aroma thats just as much Pinot as it is porter. Wet whiskey stave forward with the roast of the beer taking a major back seat. Flavor isnt bad, its just thin bodied and the beer flavors are overpowered by the barrel treatment.

Bottle at the great AZ driveway tasting as I’m calling it. Anyways this was pretty awesome. Pours dark brown. tastes of lovely amounts of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, bourbon and vanilla. None of these are overpowering and work together just lovely. creamy with nice mouthfeel quite drinkable.

THANKS ADAM! Bomber, fresh from the brewery in an HFS glass at cellar temp (60F) Pours dark black, minimal head that fades fast. As a huge fan of woodford reserve, this smells fantastic! I love the charred oak and vanilla. Insanely great! muted vanilla, cocoa beans and a slight hershey’s chocolate syrup finish. I had Eugene earlier (the non BA version) and this is worlds better. I love the carbonation. It’s just nice!

On tap at Revolution. Nice whiskey aroma up front, though that overpowers everything else just a bit. Underneath nice notes of coffee, chocolate, and roast.

This weekend I had the pleasure of trying two fresh Revolution barrel-aged porters: this one and Bean Gene, which is very similar but did not age quite as long. Both are excellent. What are the differences? Mean Gene has less alcohol burn but the same ABV, Bean Gene may have a more complex aroma, but Mean Gene is slightly mellower, less oily and more drinkable. Both have aromas of chocolate, vanilla, oak, dark fruits, and coffee, but Mean Gene is lighter on the coffee and has a tad more carbonation. Still very little lacing on this dark brown/black opaque brew. If you have a chance to try either one and can’t decide, I recommend trying both.
