Dark brown pour with a brown head. Brownie batter, vanilla, alcohol is hidden great. Smooth and rich.

On tap at GTMW. Poured deep brown with a lovely, tall, dark beige head. The aroma was sweet and bourbonny upfront, over well-roasted (near-burnt) black patent and molasses.. sweeter chocolate undertones.. great balance! The flavor found warm, burnt black malts cut by milkier sugars and vanilla.. sweet bourbon and toasty oak laced throughout.. solid balance, but not quite up to par with the nose. Heavy-bodied and well-carbonated on the palate.. I really enjoyed this!

FoBAB 2010: Basically opaque with just a hint of amber highlight, long lasting creamy off-white head and very good lace. The aroma seems more that a bit old and oxidized (more than your average BA beer) with some flowery, tobacco, and leathery earthy vapours, plum and walnut, a touch of vanilla and bourbon, a some beginnings of wild yeast lactic acid tones. The taste is twangy and fruity with a nutty and bready background. Light handed coffee and chocolate tones along with equally light handed bourbon character. The issue is a the hint of infected lactic sourness that sort of detracts from it all. The mouth feel is smooth and lush, easy to drink. While there are a few flaws, I also liked that it was not a bourbon bomb and you still could get a lot of basic porter character about this beer.

On tap at Revolution. Nice whiskey aroma up front, though that overpowers everything else just a bit. Underneath nice notes of coffee, chocolate, and roast.

Aroma and flavor of black tea. Was expecting coffee but this has a strange flavor and scent to it.

Draft sample at FOBAB 2010. Pours a cloudy amber-brown color with a small beige head. I haven’t had the regular Eugene but this makes me want to try it. Notes of vanilla, oak, bourbon, chocolate, caramel malts, and roast. Very simple, smooth, and balanced. Medium-bodied, with a sweet, roasted malty mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Very nice.

Sampled at FoBAB 2010 (Chicago, IL). Pours a roasty brownish black opaque hue, decent tannish head laces ok. Aromas are roasty malts, vanilla, some floral and pine, cocoa. Initial is mellow, roasty maalts, cocoa, vanilla, coffee, bourbon, wet oak, rich spirit. Oak, sweet, vanilla, bourbon. Some light spirirt, wert hops. Finish is balanced sweet, roast, toast, warm. Nice hops shine through, still fairly fresh, the barrel takes a bigger hold on the beer, spirit and warmth. Nice beer, a bit green around the edges, but I think that"s what they were going for honestly. I’d like another go at this, I really enjoyed it.

On tap at the brew pub...A dark brown pour with a light tan head, good retention and great lacing...A very sweet aroma of all bourbon and vanilla, a touch to sweet for me. Stunningly similar to BCS, more than a few couldn’t tell the difference between the two...The taste is way interesting as not surprisingly it is sweet, but not how you would think. The bourbon and vanilla are replaced by sweet and creamy milk chocolate, and the finish brings back the biting bourbon and vanilla. So complex, loving it...A wonderfully viscous lip smacker. A super unique combination in taste and play off the aroma. Reminds me of an easy to drink aged BCS. You can tell he worked at GI. Drink this beer.

Draft at FoBAB 8. Revolution number 32 for me, keeping me at 100%. Pours looking nice. Deep brown black with tan head, like fresh brownies. Nose is quite nice. There is a fair level of bourbon, though this was better balanced than the Bad Man. Nice chocolate notes. I think the barrel aging actually has done a nice job of rounding out the sometimes rough edges of Eugene. Pretty damn nice beer, I must say.
