Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours brownish-black with a medium foamy light beige head that dissipates steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, cocoa and yeast. Light-bodied with flavors of chocolate malt, yeast and a bit of spice. The finish is toasty with a short malty aftertaste. Decent all around.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear dark amber brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a dark wheat note with dark fruits and a hint of Belgian spice. Flavor is a bit thin with light dark wheat and a hint of light fruit and spice.

Tap at Revolution Brewpub, Chicago - 04/11/12. Dark black with a thin tan head that retains well, good lacing ensues. Malty nose, light roasting, grain, wheat, mineral tones, touch of smoke. Taste follows from the nose, burnt toffee and sugars, light metallic. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation leading to a roasty dry finish.

Deep deep brown color. Off white head. Medicinal aroma. Licorice and cherry in the aroma and taste. Lively carbonation. Kinda weird. Spotty lace. As it warms some cocoa flavor comes out.

Tap. Poured a black color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted malt and yeast aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium toasted sweet malt flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectation where met.

Not bad, but not as complex and flavorful as I hoped. I really love darker wheat beers and have had some really great ones. This is indeed sessionable, but not a standout by most standards. Chocolate, some dark coffee and wheat. Dark with very frothy beige head that leaves some lacing. No bitterness and not very complex. The first sip is the same as the last and none of the flavors pop as it warms. Overall, drinkable, but don’t go out of your way. Piece Dunkelweizen is a much better dark wheat offering.

Old rating. Tap at Rev brewery. Pours black with a tan head. Touch of Belgian yeast, cocoa, coffee. Solid brew.

had on tap at rev. Poured into a tulip. Pours a chocolate color with a foamy head. Nice and malty aromas of roasted beans, chocolate and other malts. Not too complex and fairly straightforward. medium bodied with good flavors of chocolate and espresso notes with some roasted malts too. Good depth, but the finish is fairly clipped. A solid brew from Rev. Didn’t fully hit me in all the right spots, but one I certainly wouldn’t turn away.

Draft on tap at Belgian Fest (Chicago, IL). Pours a richer deepish cocoa hue, good haziness, with some frothy loight brown head dies to a ring, laces small. Aromas are cocoa, gentle fruit, and toffee. Gentle roast, a touch of black olive. Some spice, mellow fruit, caramel and toffee. Coffee, and gentle fruit. Initial is medium bodied, a touch of darker girth. Some cocoa, roast, and caramelized malts. Gentle ash, peanut, earth. Some dryness, mellow dry hops. Gentle Belgian yeast elements gives just a bit of dark dried fruit. Roasty and ashy at times, quite odd with mellow dryness, dark fruit, and jabsof malty bread, carmelized malts at others. Not bad, but a bit odd.

Draft at Belgian Fest. Pours black with a tan head. The nose is roasty, cocoa and porter like. Some fruity notes. Clean and grainy. No Belgian character really. On tasting, more of the same. Maybe some pepper here. chocolate and caramel is noted. Some fruity notes, medium bitterness. Nice enough beer. Seems pretty much to be a porter...
