Our first lager beer is brewed to the classic German style. Back in the day, brewers released this stronger beer to celebrate the start of fall brewing after hot summers. Now that we have high-tech refrigeration systems we brew all year, but still enjoy drinking Oktoberfest as the temps start to cool.

Draft @ the brewpub. Pours a pale amber color with a white head. Has a fruity malty grainy aroma. Fruity malty sweetish grainy flavor with weak hoppy hints. Has a sweetish malty grainy caramel finish.

Tap sample. Poured clear brownish color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate earthy and toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

A suprisingly well-done maerzen form the US. No diacetyl, beatiful layers of sweet, bready malt, and a facefull of noble hops, but properly executed.

Revolution Oktoberfest Revolution, brought to you by the Department of Redundancies Department. Draft sample at Cincy Beerfest 2014 on Fountain Square. Pours a clear orange with a small off-white head. Notes of sweet and caramel and toasty malts, grass, straw, mild spice, and crackers. Light-bodied, with high carbonation and a sweet mouthfeel. Maybe a bit highly rated within the style, because it struck me as a fairly average example. Not bad, just fine.

12oz can. Clear amber color. Thin, sort of bubbly khaki head. Couple loose dots of lace, nothing really sticks. Nice citrusy, kind of mango-y hop nose, some tropical fruit. Faint, but there, along with the caramel malt. Medium body, smooth crisp lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Head fades to nothing. Moderate bitter taste, minimal sweet. Light spice. Hoppy for an oktoberfest, but I like it.

On tap at GABF 2011. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. The aroma is sweet toast and leaves. The flavor is a mellow and smooth Marzen; honey, some light bitter hops, bready, very smooth and clean. Nice.

Draft on tap at the brewpub during Oktoberfest at Revolution (Chicago, IL). Pours a decent copper hue, some fire to it, a light haze, with a moderate offwhite head atop that dies to a thicker film, laces small. Aromas are bready malts, biscuits, a touch of sweeter toffee. Faint spiciness and a touch of floral hopping. Initial is bready and biscuity malts, a touch of sweeter malts behind, a light floral hopping with a touch of spice. Light dryness into the finish, lingering bready and biscuity malts. Spice really never gets to what I’d like it, as it falls back to a bit more bland than I’m used to. Still, it’s nice.. and better than most other Oktoberfests around these parts. Decent hopping, malt slanted obviously on the palate, with a dry and lingering mellow sweet finish. Not bad.

Can to half-pint glass (shared with the Mrs.). Looks good for the style; a mostly transparent copper with thin off-white head that dissipates into lacing pretty quickly. Smells and tastes of dough and caramel with a solid mouthfeel. A decent Oktoberfest.

I took a break from trying a lot of delicious homebrews at the HOPS Oktoberfest to try this out. Nice pour - a clear copper body with a respectable head. The aroma was sweet malt, toasty, with some light hopping. The hops were slightly more pronounced in the flavor, balancing out the beer nicely. Very good.
