Bottle. Pours a dark brown with small beige head. The aroma is strong roast, nuts, cracker malt. Medium mouth, sweet roasted malt, chocolate, rye, light dry finish, very nice.

Tap at brewery. Black, thin tan head, spotty lacing. Dark chocolate, rye bread, caramel and tobacco. Mocha sweetness with a dry rye bread finish. Body is heavier with a foamy feel.

Poured into a snifter. 3.0 A: Black color. Seems to be a bit overcarbonated as I got a huge frothy tan head. Retention is a bit below average and not much lacing is left. 4.0 S: Mmmmm. This smells quite nice. Deep chocolate with roasty coffee and caramel. Spicy earthy rye adds a layer of complexity. Molasses underneath. 3.75 T: Tastes like it smells. Lots of chocolate, which takes the focus of the beer. Roastiness, coffee, caramel, molasses. Spicy, earthy rye. This could possibly be higher if the carbonation didnít interfere with my taste buds. Seemingly no amount of swirling reduced the carbonation to an acceptable level. 3.0 M: Medium body. Way too much damn carbonation. Itís a huge pain in the ass trying to drink this. Iím not sure if itís creamy or not. 3.5 D: Iím going to try to dissipate the carbonation for the second half of the bottle, but I had to review it the way it was.

On tap at Revolution Brewery in Chicago. Deep brown, almost black, body beneath a creamy tan head. Dry roast grains and coffee aromas. Coffee taste continues through sip with bitter notes and slight spiciness that reflect ripe blackberries. Toffee and caramel maltiness pop throughout. Rye is layered nicely and comes out most when you feel the warmth from the sweet honey aftertaste. Overall, an enjoyable stout.

On tap at the brewpub. Nice dark pour and heavy tan head. Very nice beer. Can taste a little bit of the rye, but mostly just a nice dry creamy stout. Not super heavy, but something dark that I could drink all day.

On tap, poured into a sampler glass. The aromas are sweet, with notes of grapes and raisin, and a secondary note of cereal, biscuits, and a touch of coffee. It pours a dark, opaque brown with a brown, creamy head that reduces to medium, dense foam ring with a splotchy surface and lots of lace on the glass. The taste is a medium sweet with a light-medium bitterness. Itís fairly thin and sticky with a soft carbonation. The medium malty body contains rye bread, figs, and blackberries. It finishes with a toast and jam like character and some sweet coffee. The rye bread aftertaste is light and mellow with some spiciness to it. Itís not quite heavy enough to be a desert beer, but a good sessionable stout.

My Bottom Line:
Black grapes, berry jam, roasted cereals and resinous hops are only some of the flavor components which make this comforting beer so complex.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam protects the darkness, lacing nicely.
-Vanilla, dark chocolate and black pepper also add to the fun.
-The mouthfeel is rich yet very drinkable.
-A touch of acidity is found in the back.

On tap at the Milwaukee Avenue location.

A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, nice chocolate malt with light licorice, vanilla, dark fruits, molasses, beautiful. In mouth, a nice sweet burned caramel and chocolate malt with light licorice, vanilla, aniseed, coffee grind, delicious. On tap at Revolution Milwaukee location.

Bomber. Pours a dark black thick color with a small head. Nose is malty, with coffee, chocolate, malt and charcoal. Taste is dark roasted coffee, chocolate and light and drinks rather easily. Finishes is velvety and smooth with a nice light bitter sweet chocolate finish. Quaff Score 8 / 10
