This beer categorically had nothing to do with a certain major sporting event taking place in our capital city this summer. It did however pay homage to a legendary album.

Axe-emblazoned 500ml bottle. Brilliant yellow with a bright, loose but slick white foam. An aroma that’s completely wrong-footed me; rabbit hutch, buttered cracker, lime juice, Norwegian spruce needle, dandelion....hoppy but pitched firmly in the centre of Europe. Bonus point. Excellent, ringing, mid-European lager flavour; a mouthful of pine needles draped with honey. Specks of lime and late biscuit. Good firm bitterness and earthy, sappy hop. Both me and Leighton have identified dandelion without me having read his comments. Unusual, well-hopped, balanced stuff leaning towards pilsener and light years from your typical contemporary EGA of 4.5%. A lager- a real one, maybe the best English one I’ve ever had. Another bonus point. In an alternative universe what Carling tastes like.

Cask at CPK, London. Pours clear yellow with a fine, white cream head. Biscuity, doughy malt nose, some mild floral notes, moderate hay. Light to medium sweet flavor with some tangy straw, doughy biscuits, light dandelions. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Pleasant fiish, medium sweet with faint dry lemon, more biscuits. Solid golden ale.
