Sample at the Fat Heads Tap Takeover at Kraft House No. 5 on 07/30/2015. Clear copper color with a medium fluffy bone white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Stringy lacing. Aroma of piney hops, rye and malt. Light to medium body with flavors of resiny hops, rye malt and fruit. The finish is spicy rye and hops. Above average overall.

Tasted from can. Pours a reddish amber with off white head. Aroma is caramel, biscuits, herbal and earthy notes. Taste is only mild to moderately bitter with a pretty good malt backbone. Pretty sessionable. Flavors of caramel, biscuits, toffee, herbs, earthy. Not mind blowing but pretty good rye ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is pretty typical for a Rye PA, which is to say it’s got a nice IPA-like hop character but it’s red brown in color and a bit too sweet. I am getting citrus and a touch of pine. The sticky sweetness highlights both of these elements but then also makes the beer feel somewhat sluggish and heavy on the palate, which is a definite negative in my book.I guess it does add a bit of toasty malt character but that doesn’t quite make up for the hit on drink ability. If you like how this style is typically done, this will work for you. It is well executed for what it is.

Hustle is a red copper beer with a full head of off white bubbles. Nose is light hops and roasted malt. Taste is nice roasted malt with just a bit of burnt resin. Nice finish.

Can. Pours amber with a white head. Rye and pale malts, light fruity notes, mild hops, and a quick balanced finish. Clean, relatively mild, and quite drinkable. Good stuff.

Aroma: Peach, apricot hop notes with a little light melon; a pleasantly light rye presence in the nose. Appearance: Well carbonated amber pour with a tan head that fades into a healthy skin. Flavor: Peach and apricot up front; rye shows up a bit more towards the finish, leaving a lingering bitter/dry spiciness. Palate: Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation, lingering finish. Overall: I’m not usually a big rye beer fan (I feel that the rye is often overpowering, and that the hops used are not complementary) but this is an exception. Very pleasant and well constructed.
