Yes we are bringing back Rhinelander Export! The beer that started the entire stubby beer bottle craze, but your “shorty” is now grown up. Made with the original recipe from yester-year, it is a refreshing and malty beer with a light and smooth finish. Look for it in your favorite retailer and on premise establishment.

This little 7 ouncer poured a clear yellow color with a distinct aroma of corn, and minnerals. Taste of straw, bread and corn throughout the drink. Not the best beer out there, but was pretty stoked to try this one out. Thanks ghostface!

Bottle pours yellow-gold with a white head. Aroma shows notes of corn, rubber, and a weak underlying doughy yeast. Flavor shows pretty much the same with some additional grass as well as overripe banana. Overall body is light, grainy, and finishes lightly bitter. The 7oz shorty was almost too much.

207ml bottle thanks to SS. Straight pour into a tulip yields a clear golden yellow body with a small white head that takes about a minute to fade. Aromas of corn, huge DMS (cooked turnips), pepper, body odor, a hint of a fruit ester (in a lager, I know), a bit doughy. Flavors of DMS (STRONG), grainy, cooked vegetables. Light minerallity. The rest of the malt bill is straw like with a light bready nature. A very light bitterness that fades quickly, neutral balance. Medium to lively bubbles, thinner body. Dry, light carbonic bite. I am not particularly sensitive to DMS, but this was really loaded with it! Glad it came in a small bottle.

On tap at the Minhas brewery. This is not as horrible as the other version of Rhinelander that I’ve had, but it’s not good, either. Average looking pour. Astringent nose, like band aids and bananas. Like a lot of Minhas brews this one has a heavy banana flavor, and not in a good way. Also comes in 7 ounce shorty bottles which is all you really want to drink of this.

Sampled on draught at the Great Northern Beer Festival in Eagle River, WI. Pours a clear light golden straw colored brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that leaves behind a thin ring and no lacing. Aroma is slightly fruity, some golden multi-grain malt, floral hops and a touch of honey. Taste is light bodied, plenty of carbonation with flavors of golden grain malt, a hint of corn, grassy hop with some thin bitterness. Finish is crisp, clean-cut with a very faint honey aftertaste. Though not considered a highly rated craft beer, it is still a decent session light beer, especially when the 7-oz Shorty bottles return after a 43 year absence.
