COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ribstone Creek’s new Old Man Winter Ale has a notable chocolate character alongside some roastiness and caramel sweetness. The aroma is fruity and roasty. The beer is well bodied and starts sweet, malty and chocolatey then finishes a little drier and roasty. It is 6.6% abv and has a color of 21 SRM, which is dark brown, bordering on black. Ribstone Creek wanted to have something special to mark the holiday season. Keeping with the spirit of Christmas, this beer is dark and rich, something that fits well with the cold nights and traditional meals and desserts of the season. "This beer will be unfiltered, making it more natural," said Ribstone brewery Aaron Hogarth.

A bit lighter in mouthful than expected. Also had casked version with chilies at Calgary beer festival. Dark murky brown with thin tan head. Coca, espresso and licorice. Malty and rich with light bitterness.

Aroma is dark sugars, caramel, toffee. Taste is dark roasted malts, light chocolate, toffee, coffee and vanilla beans. Hop balance is decent and finishes relatively smoothly. Appearance is a clear amber with a thin pearl head that retains fairly poorly.

Thanks Tony. Thin deep brown with off white head. Big chocolate and coffee aroma. Really nice and easy drinking, something sits weird with me.. A spice or something is there but I don’t know what. It’s a good beer

Can. Medium-dark brown, amber highlights, light tan head, good retention. Surprisingly full bodied, dark chocolate, roast, light spicy dark caramel sweetness. An excellent Porter, hearty, with subtle character and creamy mouthfeel. The best so far from these guys.

Was curious enough to try this one on. A canned offering, pours a near-black red with a lacy off-white head. Aroma is mild, bitter, a bit of coffee there. Taste starts off a bit a bit sharp, but mellows to a kind of bittersweet chocolate and coffee. Not a great porter, but not bad at all for a young brewery. I expect good things from them with maturity.

Really nice porter. Great chocolate and roasted malt flavours. A nice winter ale for cold Canadian nights.

Roasted malts with chocolate and caramel. Smooth and full of character compared to the rest of this place’s tap line up. Slightly bitter and roasty. Not bad!!

Pours a clear dark brown with a ruby hue and a nice frothy brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, sweet dried fruits, chocolate, light spices and a hint of coffee. Taste was roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and a bit of bitter cocoa and molasses. Nice full body mouthfeel yet easy to drink. Great offering!

Pint on tap at the Beer Revolution in Edmonton pours a dark amber color with a small light beige head that leaves some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted grains and chocolate with a hint of spice (possibly cardamom). Taste is a roasted grain bitterness balanced nicely with a chocolate malty sweetness with just a hint of spice. A definite step in the right direction Ribstone, with more darker and robust beers like this, you may have some new fans.
