I've honestly never heard of this beer as a "light" ale. I've been sampling Golden Griffin off and on for about 10 years now. They keep mucking with the recipe. When I first had it, back in 1993, it was way the heck too sweet. Not impressed. The beer went all over the place, lighter, a touch darker, a bit hoppy, barely hoppy. It did hit a watery phase that seemed to last from about 1999 - 2002. This time, however, was the closest I've ever seen the beer to being an actual APA. Yest, still light in color, but a better malt backbone than previously. Overcarbonated, but not much head retention. Surprisingly hoppy this time out, with a rather satisfying drying bitterness at the end. I hope they stick with this version, although it is way to hoppy to attract the Budmilob drinker they aim this beer at.

Thanks to weaheavy138 for sharing this one. Pours a lightly hazy golden with a bubbly white head. Aroma of apple juice, sweet malty notes, a little bready and fruity. Flavor of the same with some earthy/yeasty notes. Liverly carbonation.
