2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Beer Guy99 (250) - Maineville, Ohio, USA - AUG 8, 2003Nice packaging. The Rickard's beers are training beers for novices just venturing into the craft beer world. Honey Brown looks good in the glass with an attractive brown color. However, it's mild malty flavor could use a dose of Cascades to give it some balance and excitement. I had higher hopes for this one. It's packaging promised more than the beer inside delivered. But I'll say this for it, it sure is nice to see something on the store shelves in Canada besides the usual slop from Labatt and Molson. I know Rikard is associated with Molson but this is a good first step in a new direction away from high powered, malt liquor-like golden lagers.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 lesifflebiere (443) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 16, 2013
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 lotsalaughs (104) - Alberta, CANADA - DEC 2, 2012
bread, toast, hay, grass, red, brown, clear, minimal head, white foam, light sweetness, lightly bitter, light body, creamy, average carbonation, bitter
A reddish brown pour with very little foam. A nutty/sweet aroma with some grass. More on the sweet side with mildly bitter toast/nutty lingering. Quite thin in body with medium carbonation and a light bitterness that lingers.

Goût de miel peu présent et peu sucrée. Arôme de miel. Une bière se buvant bien et probablement la meilleure de la famille Rickard’s.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Metalchopz (1751) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 15, 2012
Originally rated July 2005. This honey brown from Rickard’s pours a brown colour with orange highlights. The head does not last as long as their pale and red. Lacing is not bad. The scent is of caramel malt with some floral notes. The taste though, is very smooth... almost missing. Ah... found it ! It’s in the background. Not much there, slight bitterness and sweetness. Hardly any aftertaste. Close of being refreshing.

341ml bottle pours a light brown color white a 2 finger white head that leaves a few specks of lacing. Aroma is light caramel malts and faint hops. Taste is light caramel malty sweetness with a clean hoppy bitter finish. Slightly below average for the style.

341ml bottle. Clear light brown. Not much honey taste, but still decent. I see why they replaced this with the Dark in the variety packs.

Bottle. Brown, not very sweet. An attempt to tap into the Sleeman’s market. Bland but drinkable.

Bouteille 341 ml. En fût. Belle couleur brune miel. Arôme légèrement sucrée. Elle est une bonne variante douce à la Rickard’s Red. Très bonne bière de soif.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DenisLD (87) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 8, 2010
Light brown body, with a pretty good light caramel head. Smells of sour dough, some slight roastiness and honey. Tastes pretty good, with a balanced sweetness and some caramel notes. There is some unpleasant sourness to it, though. Pretty soft on the palate; light-to-medium body to it.
Overall, this WAS the best of the Rickard’s line-up, so it’s somewhat sad that they discontinued it...
2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Powertrip (999) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 12, 2010
I was shocked at how good this one actually tasted in relation to everything else about it. The nose was skunky and dominant with old yeast but with a cheap sugary note that was attempting to bring sophistication. The palate was thin and light with no weight at all. The taste actually presented some real honey flavour and well-rounded malt that had length and presence all the way to the finish. There was also an surprising touch of mint somewhere in here that played second fiddle better than I could. A real mixed bag this one.
