Chestnut in color with semi-creamy white head. Very smooth body with medium mouthfeel. Malts of caramel and faint sweetness. Easy drinking.

Aroma: The smell is dominated by the malt aromas, sweet brown bread mainly.
Appearance: A clear red amber brew with an off-white head that leaves rather good lacing.
Taste: The taste has an upfront sweetness, raisins, dried figs, acidity from green pears and ripe lemons.
Palate: Rather high carbonation, refreshing for being a red.
Overall: Not at all bad (the Rickard’s seem to be better than Molson in average).
Note: on-tap at a Baton Rouge. Reviewed 2010-09-12.

Clear amber with an off-white head-- attractive colour. Sweet & toasty malts flavour. Medium body & carbonation. Slight bitterness in the finish.

Best cheap beer I’ve had, very common on tap so I find myself drinking a lot of it. For the price, no complaints.

Bottle, 341ml, given to me at Christmas. I hadn’t had a Rickard’s in years, figured I’d try it out again. Disappointed - I remembered this being a pretty decent red when I used to frequent the pubs, but it seems to have lost any depth it had along the Molson-purchase path. My honest impression is of Molson Export, with food colouring added. Drinkable, but I woudn’t pay good money for another.

Before working in the brewery I do now, I used to work retail at a craft brewery and would frequently have customers coming in asking "what tastes like ______" and the unparalleled beer of comparison was Rickard’s Red. Finally decided to grab one- tastes like a standard vienna lager. quite English influenced with a lot of malt characteristics coming through, smells like the grain at the brewery before it is even malted. Real raw and malty, I am quite a fan. Body is quite thin. and a very minimal hop presence is around. A better beer in my least favorite style.

On tap at Boston Pizza, Williams Lake, BC. This was poured into a pilsener glass. The appearance was a hazy burnt red with a slight transparency about it. The head was slim and centered in the middle as a little lump. Decent looking rings graced the glass as the beer goes down. The smell had a nice sweet to roasty blend of caramel malts with nuts. The taste copied the smell. A light sweet nutty aftertaste lead to a sweet wet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Nicely carbonated and a remaining smooth feel rolls over my tongue. Overall, for the style this works. I’d have it again.

12oz Can, dark red. 1 finger dark yellow head. Aroma is sweet, like cream corn and some weird pickle aroma, lots of burnt malt. Pretty smooth taste, cherry, old fruit, malts, etc. it’s a stange brew. unexciting but not awful.

16.02.2015. On tap at Hard Rock Cafe, Toronto, Canada. Amber reddish colour that really shines. White head. Soft malty aromas. Very soft nice biterness. Not to much hops, but there is a nice flavour of darker malts. Soft sweetness. Aftertaste is more soft malts. Leaves a velvet mouthfeel.
