draught. Very red colour. Aroma is weak, mostly caramel and bready malts with a little fruit. Taste is sweet. I remember this from my early drinking days as a great beer. Now that I try it again in my mature wisdom, not so much. Then again, wasnít a terrible choice when confronted with taps of bud blue and canadian.

I have tried Rickards red and rickards dark after seeing many positive reviews on the internet about them. I was very disappointed. I just donít like the taste. I donít remember any particular aroma. It does have good head retention however.

Smells great and the deep red colour is very appealing. I recommend buying a pitcher of this at the start of the night. My favourite of the Rickardís, buy it a lot even though some of those commercials are really annoying.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
The name certainly isnít a lie -- this poured a clear medium red with a short cap of beige foam. Lots of lacing, very sticky, with good head retention. Strange aroma. I get lots of fruitiness, not quite citrus, with some grainy malt and a hint of floral hops. Same in the flavour, just with mild bitterness added. Light iron character in the finish. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation, quite dry and nearly astringent. Not bad if youíre stuck somewhere with only macro taps, but certainly not something Iíd seek out or choose over nearly any craft offering.

Tap. Thin and watery. Intderesting but they use food colorign to tinge this a creamy orange reddish color. Nice way for a macro to cut corners. better of the canadian Macro lineup, but not to drinkable. definate corn and sweet maltness. Passable

2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours a clean, deep, red color with a thin off-white head. Aroma has a very light profile overall, very light malt sweetness and not much else. Flavor has a very sweet malt presence with a minimal hoppiness and a light corny ending. Body is light, mild/high fizzy, mild crispness at the end. Overall a modest beer at best. Not really anything there to offend.

2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Draught, in a pint glass. Aroma of caramel (slight) and alcohol. In the glass itís clear, light red/brown, nice head but reduces to not much within minutes. Taste is lightly sweet with a lightly bitter finish, a bit tangy. The flavour is a very one-dimensional light maltiness. Itís not awful, but itís not interesting.

A pretty good beer, but prefer the White and the Brown from Rickardís line.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Draft. Pours an amber bruin body with an off white head. Creamy body dull malt bill, almost a bit metallic like a tin note. Dull and dusky with a hint of caramel like sweetness. Eh.

One of the better mass-produced beers available in Canada. Doesnt even compare to the garbage like Budweiser, Coors and Blue.
Great taste, not too strong, very smooth easy drinking dark lager. If you havnt tried it, you definitely should, youíd be surprised that there are actually good mass produced beers in Canada.
