3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
50 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 24.09.2009
Aroma has licorice, well roasted malt and coffee notes. Flavour has pleasant roastiness, licorice and some dark chocolate. Finishes with ash, coffee notes and hints of cocoa. Some may find the malt here way too roasted, but I seem to enjoy even this level of roastiness. Palate could be more rich though.

More a black English Pale Ale than a Stout, roasty nose with earthy hops, burnt-bitter with burnt caramel notes plus spicy red fruit hints.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Not a bad stout. Pours black with minimal tan soapy head. Smell is slight roasted malt and pear. Taste is pretty mild with the roasted malt coming through with a bit of coffee and slight fruit. I guess I was expecting a massive flavour profile but I found it subdued. Despite that it is an enjoyable beer!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Sainsbury. Poured a clear dark brown with a reddish hue and a frothy light tan head. The aroma is big roast, creamy caramel and raisins.
The flavour is medium bitter with a creamy malt hop bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with flat carbonation and a long bitter finish. There is a lot going on here. Carlsberg donít brew beer, but if they did they should be like this!

500ml bottle at home. Chilled by accident and didnít want to wait for it to unchill itself. So maybe I donít get the full range of flavours here. Still, pours a promising dark colour with some nice roasted malts, figgy hints, grains but nothing overbearing.
