The beer is black with a thin khaki head. Smells of roasted malt and bitter baking chocolate. A bit of toffee and molasses with a mild coffee aroma and perhaps a hint of dark fruit. The flavor is lightly sweet, mostly from the dark fruit notes, which consists largely of prunes. Fairly heavy on the roasted malt with some coffee and a mild flavor of dark chocolate.

Meanwhile, differences in quality between Sam Smith and Ridgeway just don’t seem to register with beer geeks, who don’t understand English beer in the first place, and won’t generate any excitement for it that might get noticed in the mainstream. (I wonder how much whiskey-infused stuff the geeks are buying now, by the way.)
