COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"It turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, of course - wrong place at the wrong time...but Claus was soon back on the street with the polite apologies of the authorities - no questions asked. All’s well that ends well, surely, but still, the reporters wanted to know...it takes its toll, doesnt’t it? "Indeed" sighed Claus, "my elf is going crazy, and I fear I shall soon go crazy as well" And with that he hoisted a great flagon of his favorite barleywine-style ale, silently contemplating the future and straining to remember why he got into this particular line of work in the first place. Peter Scholey, Brewer.

Red beer with a brief and minimal head. Lots of sweet sugared/canned peaches on the nose. Full bodied. Oily. Lots of caramel and dried fruit. Very lovely brew for slow drinking.

KI=4

Bottle. Deep copper body, white head. Aroma of ripe fruit, alcohol, vanilla. Taste is fruity of oranges, peach, plum, with a sweet caramel/honey malt finish. Warm alcohol feel, with an aftertaste of dark fruit and caramel.

From a 500ml bottle on 14/1/2014. Pours a clear orange/light amber with just a hint of head. Has a quite pronounced aroma featuring toffee, fruit and a dash of alcohol. Taking a sip and there’s lots of sweet toffee, stone fruit and some brown sugar, with a spicy, slightly sharp alcoholic bitterness finishing things off. The texture is quite oily and the carbonation modest. I think this is harshly treated on here ratings wise. It may not be a world beater, but it’s a solid sweet sipper, which I have no complaints whatsoever in downing.

P: Clear copper body with a short lives crown that rests to a nice thin white film. S: Vanilla, French oak, booze, banana taffy, sweet toffee, acidic, candied malt, Christmas spices, barley is present but faint. Very malty and syrupy. T/M: Heavy malt base with almost a dairy creamer taste. Super sweet candy, banana snow cone syrup, and toffee. Again barley is not really a player and faintly bitter apple peel hops. Thick chewy body with little carbonation and a spicy finish. O: I see why they callbthis Criminally Bad Elf because IT IS crininally bad. Not what I expect from a barley wine style brew. This is more of a winter warmer with banana influence. A search and rescue team is required to find the barley and the overall delivery is not great. I think this beer is confused on what it wants to be. I can honestly say I would not purchase this again.

330ml bottle, by the courtesy of Finn. Fair amount of airy, off-white foamy head with satisfying duration and lacing. Clear golden-brown coloured body. Modest aroma of herbs, sweet malt and dried fruits. Dry and sweet taste character of almond, herbal malts, honey and bittersweet berries towards a partially lingering ending, tingled with alcohol. Medium bodied. Warming mouthfeel. Decent slow Yuletide sipper (Tromsø 02.01.2014).

Big sweet malt, overpowering alcohol, some fruits. Too strong and no body to carry it.
