COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"It turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, of course - wrong place at the wrong time...but Claus was soon back on the street with the polite apologies of the authorities - no questions asked. Allís well that ends well, surely, but still, the reporters wanted to know...it takes its toll, doesntít it? "Indeed" sighed Claus, "my elf is going crazy, and I fear I shall soon go crazy as well" And with that he hoisted a great flagon of his favorite barleywine-style ale, silently contemplating the future and straining to remember why he got into this particular line of work in the first place. Peter Scholey, Brewer.

Itís a very beautiful, warm amber beer with a small, dense head. The aroma is fruity sweet with notes of malt and caramel. The mouthfeel is fat and the flavour has sweetness, light fruits, malt, caramel, candy sugar, a nice bitterness for this style, and itís a bit citrussy in the finish. Itís an uncomplicated BW, maybe not as complex as many others, but charming!

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized off-white colored bubbles that were and left behind a transparent softly carbonated light brown colored body and an excellent lacing. The weak aroma was mild vinous and malt hop. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The weak flavor contained notes of hops mildly vinous and brown malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again

Deep gold with a nice white head that leaves a decent lace all the way down the bottle. Malty aroma with some earthy hops, but marred by a significant fusel nose, with notes of green apple and some hints of solvent. Flavor is better, with malt up front, some hops, but still with some higher alcohols. Not extreme, but off-putting. Some alcoholic astringence in the mouthfeel.

Bottle 0.5 l. Clear amber, almost no head. Nose has hops, alcohol, nuts, bourbon, marzipan. Flavor is slightly bitter, nutty, bit fruity but mostly dry. Alcohol is quite upfront. Not bad, but not very rememberable either.

500ml Bottle: Medium sweet aroma. Smells of fruits, malts, alcohol, some plum, grains, and other dark fruits. Poured amber in color with a large, foamy, rocky, off-white head that lasted throughout. Very good lacing. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of alcohol, grains, grapes, malts, dark fruits, and honey. Medium body. Oily texture. Soft to average carbonation. Sweet, malty, alcohol finish. Warming.

From 500 bottle this poured orange with big bubble head, hat left little lacing. Nose was of grapefruit and sweet caramel malts. Sticky mouthfeel. Flavor was sweet malts. Finish was sweet also. Drinkable, but way down the list of my barley wines.

A mediocore barley wine. To be expected from these "novelty" beers. This was a gift from a friend and I did enjoy drinking it and feeling the effects of itís 10.5%. I do love good barley wines, but I would not buy this one. Will drink it again if given to me though!

[983-20071215] 500mL (Holiday Tasting 2007 @ Coleís, Buffalo, NY). Boozy malt aroma has a slice of citrus. Clear, medium orange body with a quick off-white head. Bitter doughy malt flavour has a little spice. Rough medium body. Funny label story.

Bottle. Clear medium to light dark orange color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, fruity, moderate hoppy, orange, notes of alcohol, licorice. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. (241207)
