"It turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, of course - wrong place at the wrong time...but Claus was soon back on the street with the polite apologies of the authorities - no questions asked. All’s well that ends well, surely, but still, the reporters wanted to know...it takes its toll, doesnt’t it? "Indeed" sighed Claus, "my elf is going crazy, and I fear I shall soon go crazy as well" And with that he hoisted a great flagon of his favorite barleywine-style ale, silently contemplating the future and straining to remember why he got into this particular line of work in the first place. Peter Scholey, Brewer.

(Cask at Gallow’s Bird, 20131213) The beer poured deep copper coloured and clear. Its head was small, bubbly and white. Aroma had malts, sweetness and dried plum. Palate was medium bodied, sticky and warming with low carbonation. Flavours were malts, toffee, sweetness, alcohol, berries and bitterness. Afteraste had malts, berries and bitterness. Too much sweetness, berries and alcohol pushing through.

Draft at Monks Holliday Dinner. Clear caramel pour. Pretty sweet. Dark caramel apples. Sugared dark amber fruit. Boozey. Vanilla bourbon. Some coffee bitterness at the end. Okay, but not spectacular.

A very sweet, caramel maltiness. A lot of alcohol in the aroma and in the taste. A little overpowering and could be smoother.

16.9 oz bottle. Pour is a clear medium amber with an off white head and some lacing. Smell is caramel and malt with some molasses and booze. Taste is very sweet, lots of sugar, some caramel molasses and a booze kick. Kind of a one note beer for a barley wine. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle 33 cl. Amber color with minimum fast vanishing white head. Sweet pungent malts, rye bread, caramel, boozy, toast. Really strong pungent sweet malts and too boozy flavors. Needs something to tame down the boozy one dimensional flavor and give it more depth to be better and more drinkable.

Bottle. Coppery clear. Sweet malty nose, caramels, boozyness. Overripe apples, spices. Full body. Icky. Boozy malts, esters. Can’t say I enjoy this. Boozy with thin flavours. Seems like a cheap over-abv’d malt liquor.
