"It turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, of course - wrong place at the wrong time...but Claus was soon back on the street with the polite apologies of the authorities - no questions asked. All’s well that ends well, surely, but still, the reporters wanted to know...it takes its toll, doesnt’t it? "Indeed" sighed Claus, "my elf is going crazy, and I fear I shall soon go crazy as well" And with that he hoisted a great flagon of his favorite barleywine-style ale, silently contemplating the future and straining to remember why he got into this particular line of work in the first place. Peter Scholey, Brewer.

Crystal clear copper/amber with a wispy and disappearing white head. Ripe fruit sweetness and booze make up the aroma and these follow through to the taste which is well balanced and tasty. This is followed by a woody dryness which may be from the hops, but the candy sugar sweetness comes back and stays til the end. A good strong and sweet barleywine for the holidays.

Poured an amber copper color with aromas of light dark fruits, caramel, some light booze, and a touch of vanilla. Flavors were the same mostly caramel, and dark fruit with a decent alcohol aftertaste.

Sweet fusal alcohol aroma with gas and sugar sweet caramel malt. Clear amber, orange with while head that dissipates but has some slight lacing. Flavor is a bit harsh, with some oxidation. Some deeper fruits.

Pours dark copper color with a minimal head. Aroma of caramel, some alcohol notes, ripe fruits and malts. Flavor of caramel malts, toffee, some ripe fruits, alcohol and wood. A bit too sweet.

Smooth pour with minimal head. Taste of hops, caramel, and malts. Carbonation is stready, but minimal as well. It is a unique ale with a malty aftertaste. Truly enjoyed this and I am a real barleywine snob.

Pretty good, but the alco esters linger from middle to end of the drink and its a lil much to be a drinkable enjoyable beer, although it is barley wine. Aroma is sweet malty alcoholic grain. Appearance is copper with thin head that falls. Palate is saturated in sweet grain and alcohol. Hops are pretty much unnoticeable. Overall not bad the aftertaste keeps me from loving it

Poured from bottle. Aroma of vanilla, pepper and alcohol. Clear amber, thin white head. Flavors of vanilla, caramel, cane sugar, pepper, banana, grass and alcohol. Slightly grassy aftertaste. Develops a somewhat soapy feel toward the end. OK, but somewhat uneven.

500ml bottle from TW. Clear, gold-brown pour with a short, off-white head leaving minimal lace. Nose is sweet, heavy malts and booze. Medium-heavy body with mild carbonation. Caramel, EtOH bitterness, dried fruit. Too sweet, too boozy, too big, not enough hops and not nearly complex enough. A big disappointment given how much I like Lump of Coal and the Insanely Bad Elf.

On tap. Golden copper, small off white head. Malt, grain, brown sugar aroma. Medium full body, sticky, boozy. Flavor mostly sweet and a bit harsh. Caramel, toffee, tiny bit of hops. Flavor although maybe too sweet is not entirely bad but the alcohol is too prominent.
