COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"It turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, of course - wrong place at the wrong time...but Claus was soon back on the street with the polite apologies of the authorities - no questions asked. Allís well that ends well, surely, but still, the reporters wanted to know...it takes its toll, doesntít it? "Indeed" sighed Claus, "my elf is going crazy, and I fear I shall soon go crazy as well" And with that he hoisted a great flagon of his favorite barleywine-style ale, silently contemplating the future and straining to remember why he got into this particular line of work in the first place. Peter Scholey, Brewer.

Appearance: Clear amber/copper with thin fizzy quick to disappear ivory head. Aroma: Raisin, prune, tinned peaches in syrup, liquorice, syrup, floral, toffee, cherry, marzipan and vinous. Taste: Medium sweet, low/medium sour and low bitterness. Palate: Thick coarse texture, medium body, average carbonation, lingering dry liquorice, syrup, fruity sweet finish with a sourness and burnt caramel. Ending alcohol warmth. Comments: Very tasty.

Very nice. This barley wine pours a clear orange/chestnut body with red highlights and is topped with a thick ecru head. Llama. The aroma is sweet with small stoned fruits, sweet worty malts, and has an element of a brandy to it. Smooth. Itís full-bodied and slightly oily, covering the inside of the mouth until the next palate cleansing eat/drink. It tastes warm, the "A" in the ABV fornicating with cherries, plums, chewy caramel and toffee malt flavors, and a light earthy bitterness. The finish is long, hot with alcohol, sweet, and slightly soiled. Good stuff.

Part of a sample pack.Nice amber, red, brown color.Medium sized off white head that had a decent hang time then faded to leave little behind. The aroma was malty and fruity sweet with a sort of syrupy side, and donít ask me how i smell a syrupy side it just kind of has that tone to me if any of that makes sense. The taste was pretty decent for a BW considering i was looking for that heavy syrupy feel and it didnít happen.Nice malty sweet taste up front with a good fruity side coming through in the middle and finishing up nicely hoppy with a slight alcohol burn in the late middle and end.Pretty smooth brew IMO and well worth getting a few more for a little age check later down the road.

Screw the 3.12 RB average, this is delish, almost criminally good, though not quite there. It is an English-style BW, which puts this at the level of an American ESB. Very sweet, much more sweet than possibly bitter. It does resemble liquid sugar, dunnit. Makes it dangerously drinkable at 10% ABV. The explanation for the criiminally low 3.12 RB average is that itís too sweet for a typical beer, and doesnít exactly present as a Barley Wine in the usual sense. Body is too thin by that standard, and itís not especially balanced. But this rater found it criminally drinkable in light of its near-average beer qualities..

Very nice....Amber pour with minimal head. Aroma is malt heavy. Taste is slightly bitter with some malt a syrupy sweetness. Finishes well with a slight lingering bitter aftertaste.

In the bottle at the 2007 Crescent Moon Holiday Beer Tasting. Pours dark gold with a thin white head. A very clear beer. Deliciuos malty body with lots of caramel flavors. The ethanol burn is extreme. The hops are very smooth in this one. They seem evenly distributed. This might be my favorite English barleywine, but is certainly the best Ridgeway product Iíve had.

Bottle... Crystal clear amber in color with a pillowy white head - lots of lace. Aroma is very sweet with a strong nose of cane syrup. Flavor is very floral, sweet, almost cloying. There is a strong appearance of alcohol especially towards the finish. A very decent barley wine.
