"It turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, of course - wrong place at the wrong time...but Claus was soon back on the street with the polite apologies of the authorities - no questions asked. Allís well that ends well, surely, but still, the reporters wanted to know...it takes its toll, doesntít it? "Indeed" sighed Claus, "my elf is going crazy, and I fear I shall soon go crazy as well" And with that he hoisted a great flagon of his favorite barleywine-style ale, silently contemplating the future and straining to remember why he got into this particular line of work in the first place. Peter Scholey, Brewer.

Bottle. The pour was a hazy reddish copper with an average sized (1-2 finger) off white creamy head that was mostly lasting and had some pretty good streaks of lace. The aroma was very sweet with a strong dark fruit presence, some biscuit malts and a sweet doughy yeast and had notes of honey, caramel, toffee and a mild white wine scent. The taste was extremely sweet and boldly malty with notes of honey and caramel from the onset with the finish being sweetly acidic and having a big note of dark fruit (raisins and plums), a bit of toffee and a decent white wine alcohol presence towards the end. The flavor stuck around for a nice long time after the swallow with a thick sweet fruity taste left to settle on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was just a few shades under medium in body with a light syrupy texture and a mild carbonation. Overall a boldly sweet Barleywine with a nice strong fruity presence...

Bottle shared at chrisoís Easter 2015 tasting - London. Thanks to Daniel. Pours clear amber with a creamy white head. The character is dominated by caramel, toffee, doughy malts and butterscotch. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Sugary finish, warming, with more toffee and butterscotch. Quite tasty.

Pours a nice amber color, with no real head retention or lacing. Smells malty and of molasses. Tastes sweet and malty as well. Itís not the best barleywine, but itís palateable. Not a fan of this.

Bottle 33cl. (from drinks-of-the-world.de). Clear medium amber, small frothy off-white head, recedes quickly, almost no lacing; sweet malty aroma, brown sugar, caramel, honey, alcohol, spices (cinnamon, ginger); taste heavy sweet, slightly bitter, caramel, bit toasted; full-bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation, aftertaste light toasted sweetbitter, alcoholic, spicy notes; lacks complexity in taste/aftertaste but overall a pleasant Barley Wine.

300ml bottle given as a Christmas present by Mark - cheers! Poured into a chalice glass and drank on the 12th April 2015. Crystal clear Irn Bru in colour with a fleeting white head which rapidly vanished away. Malty aroma with strong notes of sweet barley sugar throughout. Surprisingly thin mouthfeel considering the ABV and no lacing whatsoever. Mixed malts deliver a spicy maltloaf base with notes of gingerbread and sweet barley twists. There is very little in the way of hop resins lurking in the brief aftertaste. Finish is malty and very sweet with warming alcohol giving a boozy flavour in the palate. Not a patch on Strands Barley Wine as a benchmark however but nice to try none the less for a Barley Wine aficionado.

Bottle split at Chriso Easter tasting, thanks to Daniel, 04/04/15. Golden amber with a decent off white covering. Nose is dark fruit rinds, sweet malt, spice, bubble gum. Taste comprises sweet licks, toffee fudge, toasted brown sugars, dark fruit peel. Medium + body, moderate carbonation, sweet cloying notes in the close. So so for style and lacking much in the way of depth but a drinkable sipper none the less.

Bottle shared at ChrisOís. BB Sep 2016, 10.5% Seems to be filtered. Pale orange, clear, lightly sparkling, big foamy white head. Aroma is musty tangerine, sweet and syrupy. Body is medium, slightly foamy, low carbonation. Taste is toffee, caramel, a little alcoholic, some marmalade. This is fine. Iíve had similar beers with a 3.8 average. The naff marketing probably has an impact.

Amber body and medium head. Sweet malts, sticky fruit, grapes, pine tree. Syrupy mouth feel, sweet Base and a bit short in the end for the abv. Sticky and sweet, just how I like my barley wine. Sure, you could add a lovely citrus hop layer, but itís just fine as it is. Tasty and satisfying end if the night drink. (Bottle from Saveur BiŤre)
