Ridgeway FES bottle matures in a similar way to vintage port. Roasted malts and leaf hops initially provide an aroma of breakfast coffee and fresh spices that gradually fades to reveal licorice, caramel and raisin notes that are products of the ageing process. Beneath all this change sits a solid and resilient backbone of bitter English hop. Satisfyingly foreign. You might even imagine the glow of the peat fire?

500ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a small beige head, which fades rapidly, leaving no lacing. Herbal notes, port and Turkish coffee make up the aroma. Herbal hops up front give way to sweet Turkish coffee and milk chocolate in the mid-palate. Muscat and mild dark chocolate appear in the finish. This is, on the whole, a pretty decent stout.

16.9oz bottle. Dark brown, slightly red color. Mostly clear. Thin light brown head, quickly fizzes away to minimal. Leaves very few dots of lace. Medium to bigger body. Crisp, light carbonation. Body is a little thin and watery, does not feel full or chewy. A lot of sweet taste, lightly cloying.Light bitterness. Some coffee, dark fruit, milk chocolate in the aroma. Light spice. OK, but I’m not totally into this one.

Bottle. Black. Black soft roastyness. A bit of milkyness there as well. Body full, but surprisingly drinkable for the abv. Has good flavours- chocolately roasty tones, a bit of milky sweetness. Good drinkable strong stout. A bit of sweetness, a bit weak in intesity.

Deep brown with red hints...short, dark tan head. Aroma is light....sweet smoke, raisin, light chocolate. Taste is soft, cream, chocolate, roast. Very gentle...sweet, but not overly so. A touch of licorice, malty. Not terribly "stout"....but quite a nice drinking beer.
