COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Any porter requires complexity of malt and yeast flavours without excessive bitterness. We use a mixture of Maris Otter variety pale ale malt, pilsner malt, crystal malt, amber malt, black malt, roasted barley and malted oats. Porters, even imperial ones, are not a hop driven style of beer so the aim is to produce a simple clean background bitterness using traditional varieties like Challenger, Golding and Progress.

Black, pretty soapy head. Roasty and smoky, coffee and chocolate. Medium sweetness, light bitterness. Alcohol well hidden. I always have a personal soft spot for strong porters, but this was not that complex nor interesting. Enjoyed it still.

0.5 bottle. Very dark brown almost black color, brownish head of medium size but it doesn’t stay long and is thin as well. Obviously malty aroma, quite a lot of bread and cereals, soft notes of puffed rice and coffee; the overall strength of these fragrances is low. The taste is driven by dark malts bearing hints of roasting, there is some berry-like fruitiness to it but rather negligible. Medium body, creamy texture and soft carbonation. Finish presents more fruitiness of the same berry-like sort and is generally sweeter, other than that it’s still the same malty character with a nice doze of bitterness. Overall the beer is rather unremarkable for its style, cannot be classified as bad but it doesn’t excel either.

Many thanks to Finn for a 500ml bottle of this one. Bubbly, beige head reduced to a low layer. Poor lacing. A rustic shade to a deep dark coloured body. Restrained aroma of roasted grainy malts. Flavours of grainy chocolate malts, ash and a little touch of vanilla. Malt bitter ending. Fine bodied, not overly sweet. Pleasing (Tromsø, 03.08.2013).

Bottled (from Alko Prisma, Vaasa). Deep amber colour, small brown head. Aroma is mild plum, raisins, toffee, slight roast, liquorice and ashes. Flavour is roast, ashes, ripe fruits, mild lactic notes. Quite dry palate.

Smell of roasted malts, metal, chocolate. Dark brown colour, high brown head. Aroma of coffee, licorice, chocolate, some tar. Bitter and sweet, sweetness gets more through with warmth. Soft but plentiful carbon. Surprisingly watery when cold, no longer when warmer.

500 ml bottle. BB 06/12/14. (Alko) Tampere, Finland.
The beer in the glass is dark reddish brown almost black coloured with a small tan head. The aroma is rather mild with roasted malt, dark chocolate, some sweetness and grassy hoppy notes. The flavour is very roasted malty with ashy and dark chocolate notes and some grassy hoppy bitterness. Balanced. Very drinkable for a 8% porter.

Very dark brown colour and a beige head. Very tasty and rich but maybe not as much as an imperial should be(?) anyway a quality beer with delicious hops.
