33cl bottle Westholme Stores, Goring - vintage 2012, bottle number 12907. A bright copper colour with a thin rim of white head; fruity aroma; thin, but syrupy in the mouth, with a butterscotch flavour; then a rounded dry bitterness with a touch of burning alcohol to the finish. Pleasant, but rather straightforward.

From tap at Ølbaren. Pours golden amber with a small thick and white head. Aroma is fruity and roasted malty. Dense sweet caramelish, bitter and light herbal. Bitter and dense malty finish.

Clear orange-red coloured with a medium sized off-white head.
Fruity aroma of caramel, hops and grass with notes of dried fruits.
Sweet and fruity flavour of caramel, dried fruits, licorice powder and alcohol.
Warming alcoholic finish.

Tap. Clear light red with a medium sized good lasting and lacing head. Aroma is caramel, fruity hops, grain, light vinous. Taste is medium+ sweet and medium bitter. Medium body, oily/light syrupy texture, near flat carbonation. Light hops in the finish. Not as big bodied as most barley wines and not all that interesting. Conceals the alcohol well, though.

Cask (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Fest2013)
Meaty and sweet aroma. Like some messed up chinese snack. Also a bit cidery. Cidery retronasals too. Sweet and sticky, and full, I guess. Nice resiny hops though. The downs are too great compared to the ups, so I can’t give this a good score.

Cask Ale tasted at Gallows Bird RAF. Mild syrop in the nose. Golden color. No head. Sweet hoppy taste. At the end hoppy bite.

Cask @ Gallows Bird RAF 2013. Pours dark orange amber. Aroma is caramel, light marzipan, sweet malts. Taste is quite sweet again with caramel malts dominating. Some pineish hops trying to make an appearance. Full palate. Ridgeway doesn’t really do these strong ones well.

Clear amber colour with tiny white head.
Aroma is sweet sugar, mild hops and malt. Hmm... not the most interesting beer in the world.

(Cask at Gallows Bird Real Ale Festival ’13) The beer poured deep golden. Its head was small and white. Aroma had malts, peas and hops. Palate was full bodied and warming with low carbonation. Flavours were malts, hops, sweetness, molasses and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, hoppy and bitter. The aroma was strange but the taste was pretty good.

Cask @ Gallows Bird Real Ale Festival 2013
Pours clear dark orange with a bubbly head. Aroma of strong sweet malty notes, ripe fruits, hops, caramel and toffee. Taste is quite malty and sweetish with notes of toffee, caramel, syrup and some fruity hops. Finish is strong and sweetish with some caramely malts and toffee. Strong, sweet and malty barley wine. Slightly unbalanced.
