New Beer Distributors, NYC bottle ($6ish): Pours near black with a carbonated body and a light beige head. Aroma is kind of minerally and metallic with hints of soy sauce, herbs, and chocolate. Taste is somewhat bitter. Some dark chocolate in there. Sticky sweetness is in there, but there would be no way that you could really call this sweet. Some lingering aftertaste. Alcohol is well covered if it is indeed this alcoholic.

Bottle: Vintage 2012: Aroma is soft roasted malts with a gentle shower of mild coffee. Taste is round and pleasant. Soft toffee, creamy caramels, soft roast with a small hint of wood. In the aftertaste there is a kind of lively fizz after all, almost like a drop of soy sauce. This was a very pleasant Imp. Stout and I enjoyed it a lot.

Smells like chocolate rum pralines, it’s a bit sweet, gives you a very nice note of 70% dark chocolate on the palate, with some hints of cherry. For 10% ABV it has surprisingly little alcohol in the actual taste, I would say that it’s a bit watery, too. From the very nice russian-style vintage bottle, I expected something a bit more exciting, but nevertheless a very good beer.

Bouteille numéro 1175. Vintage 2014.

Bottle from Beer52. Pours dark brown, almost black with a single finger tan coloured head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, chocolate, licquorice, marshmallow and biscuit. Initial Caramel taste, toffee, biscuit, then a complex mixture of chocolate, marshmallow and licorice. Maybe some vanilla too. Nice and Sweet!

Bottle from Cuso, thanks! 2012 vintage, pours dark red/brown with a sand/khaki head. Aroma has coffee, dark chocolate and vinous notes. Taste is roasted with chocolate, coffee and dry, well balanced bitterness. Medium body, low but prickly carbonation, smooth. Dry bitter after taste with some alcohol heat.

Bottle, from trade with Cuso - cheers man! :-) Pours a deep bronze-hued, near-black body with a small light beige head. Nose is deep caramel notes, leather, licorice, toffee and hints of chocolate and biscuits. Taste is caramel, toffee, biscuits, brown bread, licorice and hints of leather and port wine. Medium body and carbonation. A complex, sweet imperial stout in the English tradition. Elegant, tasty but perhaps a bit lackluster and with very little roastiness going for it. Still, a rather tasty brew all in all.

330ml bottle (Drink Shop) 2012 vintage, bottle nr 8471. Clearish dark copper colour. Small size, brown head, stays. Sweet, malty, roast, raisins, alcohol, licorice in aroma. Hazelnuts, malty, roast in taste. Medium bitterness. Hazelnut skin roast in aftertaste. Weird one. I’m tempted to say this is not an ale, but a lager. Baltic Porter?

330ml bottle
Yikes, sweet aroma. Some burntness. Very deep red, small fairly persistent tan head. Simple sweetish palate, just some roast, not much more. Kinda thin. Is this a baltic porter (i.e. lager). The bottle says it’s BC, but there’s none of the life or the fullness. Finish does have some nice vanilla chocolate. There’s also some nice bitterness in the late finish, quite drying. Bit of a weird one, just a roast and some sugars. Does cover the alcohol quite well, but it’s not a good stout, let alone a good impy.
