Bottle from BarleyWine. Bottle 1494 of the 2012 vintage. Pours dark brown with a sight beige or tan head. Aroma of mixed chocolate and licorice. Sweet and malty. Med body or so. Flavor is mixed licorice and chocolate. Some fruit notes - but not fresh. More dark or dried. Overall it has good flavor, but seems a bit thin and dry. But I’m not the czar, so I’ll say it’s a good drink.

Bottle. Brown color, wispy off-white head. Fairly dry aroma, wood and dark malts. Dry flavor, licorice, hops, oak, herbal notes. Full body, medium-light carbonation. Too dry.

I like the roasted coffee flavour that the beer has behind every maltiness and other basic Stout flavors.

Bottle 2015 vintage. Black with tan head. Aroma mild, toffee, dark sugar. Taste malty sweet, fruits (apple, pear), herbal bitterness joins in, finishes with long smooth coffee roastiness and herbal bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

0.33 l bottle from Alko Arkadia, Helsinki (2015 vintage). Appearance is dark ruby with small white head. Taste has some dark chocolate and a bitter end. It is also a bit tart. The historical export to Russia was probably sweeter than this, even too sweet for modern taste. ABV seems to be at the right level.

Bottle (2015). Jet black with small tan head, almost no lacing. Strong aromas of coffee and chocolate. Had another bottle ca. 12 months ago, remember well, the aroma was even stronger! Same in taste with some feeling of roasted malts, medium body with right carbonation. Little oily texture, good bitterness and taste staing in mouth for a long time. A good stuff.

330 ml bottle, vintage 2012, bottle No. 1368, from Prima Beer, Hobro. 99 IBU as fresh. Ebony colour, low beige head. Aroma of dark malts, chocolate, vanilla, prunes, oak and fortified wine. Soft mouthfeel, very moderate carbonation. The flavour has the same notes as the aroma, also coffee and decent hops in the finish. Good beer.
