UPDATED: MAY 30, 2013 Wow...Had it on cask which is always a great way to drink an imperial stout. Dark and smooth with the typical imperial stout aftertaste

Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown, almost black, body with a small wispy beige head that faded to a thin ring. The nose is heavy burnt caramel, roast, some licorice, some dark chocolate, and some minimal alcohol. The flavor is a little thin, a little overly sweet, too much burnt caramel, and minimal alcohol. Not exactly up my alley as far as the style goes. This is just a little too light bodied and lacking in malt. Minimal soft fizzy carbonation and a lingering caramel finish. Not among my favorites for the style.

(bottle, 33cl) Clear, ruby brown colour with a short and tanned foamy layer. Moderately roasty malty aroma with notes of chestnuts, leather, mocha and traces of molasses. Sweet and slightly roasty bitter flavour, medium to full bodied with a smooth carbonation. Not overly roasted flavours compared to other Imperial Stouts, rather nutty with a touch of chocolate, hints of coffee in the background, as well as some liquorice spice; medium-dry, mildly roasted bitter-sweet finish with notes of chocolate and a tinge of booze in the aftertaste. 30.V.14

Cola black beer with a small beige head. Sweet liquorice and roasty aroma. Medium to full bodied. Coffee, extra dark chocolate and liquorice. Some crispy carbonation. Very full flavored. Quite nice mouth feel. Alcohol is well hidden. I like the amount of bitterness. A very good, sweet and strong porter with a nice drinkability.

stravale (2041) - Near Carrick-on-Shannon, IRELAND - MAY 9, 2014
Bottle from Beers Of Europe [050514] Bottle Number 11902 / 2012 Vintage
Pitch black, large beige head that dissipates, some lacing
Aroma of rich dark malts, chocolate, soft roast, some dark fruits
Taste of dark malts, mellow roast, chocolate, soft wine, soft coffee, hint of alcohol, mellow fruits, slight toffee, not that complex
Palate - soft carb, medium body, light sweet, soft bitter, mellow roast. Finish as main flavour, warming alcohol, mellow roast, slight spicy
Overall - A good imperial stout, maybe lacking the wow factor but pleasant enough and easy going for the abv

Bouteille: Clear, ruby-amber coloured, small and stable tanned layer; sweet strong wine, molasses, nuts and dried fruits in the nose; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, medium to full bodied; traces of warming alcohol - a bit brandy-like - in the lingering vinous and toasty-fruity finish. Really O.K., an easy-drinking Imperial Stout…

Flaske nr. 4277 - 0,33l fra Alko Muonio. Drukket i heimen 5 Apr 14. Ultradypbrun/svart. Høyt luftig skum med litt farge. Skummet varer. Pen kniplingslacing. Nydelig - men avdempet - aroma av lakris & sjokolade. Silkemyk munnfølelse. Smaken er fint avbalansert. Litt syrlig. Lakris. Sjokolade.
