Bottle conditioned, Special;
Imperial Red Ale
"My goodness", muttered Claus, recalling his visit to the Institute, "the restrictive outerwear, the padded room-even padded Christmas tree ornaments. Horrifying! Yet the little chap seems happier than heís ever been" Claus took a thoughtful sip of a most warming red ale. "Perhaps sanity is over-rated...Ho,Ho,Ho!"

Very xmassy spice, big nose. A fuller mouthfeel for a cask, Cask Days 2013. A sipper really. Change of pace but dangerously high abv.

330ml bottle from Millets Farm Shop nr Abingdon. Pours copper with a middling beige head. Pleasant enough smell of summer fruits- strawberry and melon, perhaps. Itís on putting the stuff in your mouth that the problems begin. The syrupy texture fails to be relieved by a light fizz. Although the flavour is fruity, itís mainly dominated by sugar, like an extreme alcopop- it feels like itís dissolving your teeth! A lasting dirty deaf leaf bitterness does not balance the sweetness, but instead adds an additional layer of unpleasantness to the inside of your mouth. Overall then itís pretty grim, and scrapes a better-than-intended score only thanks to the pleasant aroma. I struggled to drink a whole bottle- quarter of a bottle might be better, but youíd still want a dentist on standby.

Copper body with a thin vanishing white head. Sweety and malty aroma. Taste is a bit fruity, malty, then comes the alcohol.

Copper orange in color... Aroma is slightly malty and spicy... Flavor is intensely sweet up front, hints of spices, mild alcohol notes... Finish is slightly off, pretty unremarkable beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not a red ale. This is a barley wine. Pours beautiful enough; ruby-infused copper color. But the aroma is pure alcohol, as is the taste. The ABV is only 11.2%, so more taste should be easy to come by. As a barley wine, it's below average. As a red ale -- imperial or otherwise -- a failure. Bad elf indeed! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle. 2011 Vintage. Honey-colored, big bubbles, clear, light lacing. A lackluster effort, in my opinion. Yet, I am SO biased towards this style, itís not in me to rate it less than 2.8. Cloyingly sweet, also bitter, lacking complexity. I hated the first taste, but it grows on you...a bit.

Pours a copper-golden color with whisps of bubbles for white head. Cherry, syrupy sweet boozey aroma. A sweet booze-bomb...some cherry sweetness but definitely boozy. Probably will know me on my a$s this late at night.
