3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottled. Pours clear, amber with a sparse head. Taste is very sweet, palate has medium bitters, a medium to full body and soft carbonation. Aroma has tokaj, molasses, warming alcohol. Although high alcohol is very well hidden, the sweetness is a bit overpowering.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Terre de Boissons, Coquelles, France. A dark amber coloured pour with a thin white head on top. Sweet, fruity, honey aroma. Tastes similar, quite sweet, fruity, honey, caramel, syrupy. Hints of De Dolle Stille Nacht in this one. I rather like it!

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Cloudy orange body, small beige head. Sweet strawberry jam aroma with caramel and alcohol. Taste is light spicy, with red berries, alcohhol, toffee. Sweetness is pretty short, and the beer ends on a drier hoppy side, with an alcohol and fruit aftertaste. A bit too noticable alcohol in this, otherwise enjoyable.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clear dark amber, with a short, off-white head.
Scent is caramel, cherry, alcohol.
Taste is tart, boozy, fruit and toffee.
Honey, candy sugar.
Very sweet, but finishes with a strong alcohol bitter/cough syrup note.
Rather harsh, overall.

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Reviewed from notes: 12/20/10
12oz bottle for $4 at Huck’s in Spokane, WA
Poured from bottle to Sam Adams signature glass.
A: Orange, red ale with excellent clarity. No head - as expected. No yeast in glass or bottle - must have been micro-filtered and forced carbonated.
S: Cherries, malt, orange, orange pekoe tea dominate the nose on this one. Not bad. Reminiscent of Imperial Red style. Sweeter malt background.
T: The sweetness of the malt is painted with herbal hop notes, earthy. Unfortunate copper, iron, chemical flavors seem to dominate this beer. Little to no hop flavor.
M: Medium body, low carbonation. Standard aged ale feel here.
D: I’m glad I only picked up one of these. Doesn’t meet my expectations for a well aged beer. Quite the let down.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Ridgeway Insanely Bad Elf has a somewhat thinnish, off-white head, a mostly clear, brilliant, amber appearance, a few bubble streams, and not really any lacing. The aroma is of toffee, booze, sweetness, and a touch of fruit. Taste is of sweetness, a nice, peppery bitterness, syrup, fruit, candi sugar, and bread. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Ridgeway Insanely Bad Elf finishes on the dry side, rich, and quite drinkable. It’s another winner from Ridgeway! RJT

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Pours clear copper brown with small white head. Aroma is very fruity with notes of sour apples, red Bassett’s Wine Gums, white wine, lawn, pine tree and faint rosehip. Taste is initial medium sweet, then medium sweet, medium bitter and light acidic. Body is heavy oily with medium carbonation. Finish is long and bitter-sweet and dominated by alcohol, but is also has notes of bitter grapefruit, caramel, fruit and flowers. Alcohol is too dominating.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Poured a dark golden color. Smaller head. Not much aroma. Maybe some grains, metal, slight fruit or candy. Taste is better than the aroma. Medium light sweetness. Alcohol is slightly hidden. Slight metallic notes. Some fruits. Malts. Ok. Not sure i would call this a Christmas beer.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Vintage 2007 on label, purchased 2009 at Binny’s. Alcohol and brown sugar smell right under the cap. Pour doesn’t look that red, more of an autumn maple leaf, if that. No head, or course. Smell has a bit of red wine from the glass. But the taste is still a touch too much sugar, with some lactose giving a sensation of milk at the back of my throat. At least it has some malts to thicken up the mouthfeel. But it’s a pretty simple alcohol delivery system which I finished off without a second thought, unlike the nicely complex Goose Bourbon County BW I just had.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a clear amber with a foamy tan head. Aroma of corn and honey. Taste is sweet with a honey flavor in addition to a milk chocolate note. The finish is clean with notes of berry and the abv comes through a little as well

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Global Brew. Pours a clear orange/amber with a thin off white head that stays. Aroma is spice and rock candy. Taste is sweet toasted malt. Sweetness is cloyingly so with maple syrup and caramel also present along with raw brown sugar. Deep alcohol warmth after swallow with hop bitterness. Very tasty and well balanced, except for sweetness.
