COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Looking forward to a depressing holiday? Here is liquid consolation. This 8% bittersweet chocolate stout is the best you could hope for in these dark times. Come to think of it, considering how bad youíve been this year, this little coal-black gem is more than you deserve for Christmas. Concocted by the vastly talented -- though, frankly, a little too cheery -- Peter Scholey, Lump of Coal will be hitting shelves and better pubs in November 2004.

Very dark, VERY memorable. I hope to see this one again. The taste was quite good, of chocolate and hints of smoke.

Pours jet black with small white head. Smells malty, chocolaty and lightly of vanilla. Tastes like chocolate, vanilla, light molasses, and faintly roasted malts. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and very little mouth-carbonation, Ridgeway Lump of Coal finishes smooth and sweet.

Bottle. Deep dark brown, tan head. Big malty and fruity aroma. with hints of roast and coffee. Smooth malty flavor, with lots of dark roasted yummyness. Some hops creep in as well. Chocolate. Reminds me of a less hoppy Alpha Klaus. Real nice brew

Sweet raisin, slight molasses aroma. Should be a little darker given the name. Lots of mouthfeel. An odd combination o flicorice, coffee, and ? in the taste. Good stuff.

2008 Bottle. I canít believe what a low rating this has. A WONDERFUL holiday stout that I wish I could get year round. Smells of berries and dark chocolate. Pours a thin dark, syrupy texture with a small cream-colored head. Tastes of roasted malts, cocoa, berries, and slightly of alcohol. Palate is very even, though a bit oily. This is a great beer...I donít know who in their right mind would think less of it.

UPDATED: OCT 26, 2008 This was an awesome beer. It wasnít as chocolatey as I thought it would be but it was still good. Black as black can be with a tan head. Smoked coffee taste. I would definitely drink this again.

Deep black pour with a fluffy tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, toffee, licorice, fruit. Flavors had all of the above. Very rich and warming, I enjoyed it.
