3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Enjoyable stout. Personally I would have liked it to be a bit thicker. Good balance. Would buy again.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
I like the way this beer looks. Shiny clear deep deep deep brown with a nice 1/2" head that leaves only a little lacing.
smell is chocolate and low burnt grains balanced nicely by thick malts. maybe some hoppiness, but I could be mistaking it for the rest of the aroma.
Taste is nice. dark roast coffee and roasted barley... some vanilla and chocolate rounded out very nicely with just enough malt sweetness and lite hops. Maybe a little watery, but that could be the alcohol slickness. Am I detecting a "house" yeast flavor

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Amazing how I can not get this in Shropshire, but found it in California while on holiday. 500ml bottle opened on 4th June 2016. Not really a sunny day brew, but I wanted to have it anyway! As the name suggests, it’s black (like a lump of coal), the head a beige blanket of foam. Sweeter than I expected, and not as rich in body depth either, but still a decent beer with slightly over roasted maltiness coming through in both the nose and taste. Glad I bought it.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a thin watery brown. Looks like a brown ale. Not what I expected at all based on the name and the style. Nose is heavy belgian yeast esters. Taste follows. This presents as a belgian dubbel and not a great one. Very dissapointing.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep brown color with a soft, tan-ish colored head. Light off banana notes over roasty porter-like flavor. Bready aroma.

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
500 ml bottle. Pours ruby brown with a medium frothy light tan head that goes to a thin film and laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet roasted oaty chocolate and caramel.
The flavor is sweet sugary dark fruits, roasted grainy chocolate malts with some black licorice and ashy bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation and a bit watery.
Overall, it’s overly sweet, grainy and ashy.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Malt and cereal smell and taste along with some mineral. Doesn’t even remotely taste like a stout. Light body, medium carbonation, and slight foam.
