COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered. 5.8%.
To get a subtle smokiness we brew with Scottish peated whisky malt, English pale and roasted malts and boil only whole leaf goldings hops. Querkus is then patiently cold matured over pieces of old French oak barrels. The flavours from the toasted wood slowly seep into the beer; bottling only when we think it is right.

Bottled, dark amber color with tan foam, nice smoke and some ash aroma/flavor but tends to be a little one dimensional without the fatty brisket notes that make these stand out, like a Louie Muellers in a glass

330ml bottle from, well, I have no idea. Stuck at the back of the shelf for God knows how long and now its day has come. Very nice aroma, smokey woodchips with some cocoa beans. Taste is lovely and smooth, light smoked character with some subtle chocolate and a hint of vanilla. Lovely stuff.

Bottled 04/09/14. A near black beer with a tiny ring of white head. Light smoke and a hint of sourness in the nose. Smoke, fruit and a bit of bitter roast in the mouth. Again a touch of acidity. It does have a bit of a German edge to it but it’s not clean enough. Still enjoyable though.

"I’m generally not a big fan of Ridgeway beers, but they did all right by me on this one. A rather thin body is the beer’s only fault, but the lightish but well done smoke and roast is done so well, it’s easily forgiveable. Very smooth easy drinking brew that will scratch the itch for smoke. "

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, smoke, coffee, peat and chocolate. Flavor of smoke, chocolate, roast, coffee, vanilla and had some notes of peat.

Pours a deep reddish brown with a small head and spotty lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dark fruit and trace of smoke. Taste of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, bit of dark fruit sweetness and smoke. Bit of a malt bitterness and a fairly dry finish. Medium body, creamy with a solid malt feel. Enjoyable beer to relax with.

Bottle and served in a nonic pint glass. The beer has some smoke ,oak, and anise character. Atypical English yeast character as well. Faint dark fruit undertones here and there. Considering the source this is not half bad... Doubt I would buy again however. My first rating from a smartphone, hope it comes put okay

Beese (2035) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - APR 28, 2014
Bottle from Sainsbury’s, Watford. Poured a very dark brown, with a tan head, which rapidly dissipated to nothing. Aroma of dark malts, vanilla and milk chocolate. Initial flavours of toast, rhubarb and a slight medicinal edge. Cooked fruit, liquorice and straw in the finish. Not much in the way of smoked character and far too sweet for me.

ContemplateBeer (1554) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - APR 20, 2014
Aroma: Roast is most apparent, but a touch of peat is in there; oak is a little more obvious as the beer warms; chocolate is more implicit than anything. Appearance: Very dark brown/near black pour with a foamy tan head that settles into an ever-present skin. Flavor: Oak is more apparent; vanilla sits at the edge of the roasted malts; chocolate is, again, more implicit; peat finally shows along with a little tea leaf toward the finish. Palate: Light body, oily texture, flat carbonation, lingering finish. Overall: A gently complex beer, really very lovely.
