COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This special holiday porter is made for winter - rich and warming, the way they like it at the North Pole. It was inspired by this famous line from a well-loved children’s storybook:

"And Santa sat on his great butt, enjoying a hardy brew..."

In case you find that amusing, the brewer hastens to point out that in England, "butt" refers to a certain sized barrel, in fact, holding 108 Imperial gallons. Back in the day it was quite a normal thing for a brewery to put its beer up in a large butt for storage. Still snickering, eh? Get your mind out of the gutter, or Santa will be skipping your house entirely this year.

Poured into a stein. Dark cola brown with a thin fizzy tan head. Aroma is semi-sweet with some chocolate and a lot of roasted coffee. Flavor is pretty mild with some nuttiness, very slight toffee notes, and some roastiness towards the finish. This reads more like a brown ale than a porter, but the palate is pretty thin and watery for either style. A little fuller body and some more maltiness would make this beer a lot better.

Pours a dark brown and ruby color with a small beige head. The aroma was mostly chocolate and roasted caramel. The taste was very similar with a light/medium mouth feel and also some coffee notes as well. This beer may be a novelty beer but it is definitely worth a try!

Novelty beer received as a gift. Brown with lasting head. Toasted caramel and bready aroma. Sweet toasted bready caramel and nuts and some fruit. Mild English bitterness. Lingering mild chocolate. Some cloy. Medium full body. Not very good but not as bad as I thought.

16.9 oz bottle. Aroma: malty, roasty, woody, and nutty, with hints of burned caramel, lactose, molasses, toffee, and bug spray. Taste/Palate: sweet and crisp; finishes astringent.

Poured from a bottle. Has a nice chestnut color. Aroma isn’t anything noteworthy other than roasty. The flavor is dry, roasty and a bit smokey. There is a slight bitterness and astringency to it. Was much easier on the palate when it warmed.

Some people are saying this is flat, and "unbalanced" - I think it’s a great example of a British Porter...something with a lighter body. It’s not what I would go for if I was looking for a more modern porter with "bigger" notes to it...but it’s nice and easy drinking. I enjoyed it.

Poor tasting beer for 6%, felt a bit watery, like flat coke. Lacked balance as mentioned in another comment.

Not a bad beer. Easy drinker. Nothing terribly Christmas-y about it, but I didn’t really count off for that. I wouldn’t seek it out, but I wouldn’t refuse it if offered.
