COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This special holiday porter is made for winter - rich and warming, the way they like it at the North Pole. It was inspired by this famous line from a well-loved children’s storybook:

"And Santa sat on his great butt, enjoying a hardy brew..."

In case you find that amusing, the brewer hastens to point out that in England, "butt" refers to a certain sized barrel, in fact, holding 108 Imperial gallons. Back in the day it was quite a normal thing for a brewery to put its beer up in a large butt for storage. Still snickering, eh? Get your mind out of the gutter, or Santa will be skipping your house entirely this year.

Dark brown pour. Creamy medium head. Malty aroma. Mild roastiness. Light mouthfeel for a porter. Caramel and toffee flavors come through more than the roast. Sweet finish. ---Rated via iPhone

Not a bad beer. Easy drinker. Nothing terribly Christmas-y about it, but I didn’t really count off for that. I wouldn’t seek it out, but I wouldn’t refuse it if offered.

"there’s a very pleasant sweet sugar/lactose aroma and mouthfeel here, maybe a little caramel malt, but the body and flavor don’t have a lot else left to offer. quite boring and doesn’t taste like a porter. thin, almost non-existent head, thin body, no finish. an ok beer, but not a good porter. "

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a mug. The appearance was a dark brown color close to black the further towards the center. There was a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. Light lacing slid into the beer. The smell had some roasty coffee to chocolate qualities with a light cinnamon, nuts and caramel coming through. The taste took those previously mentioned flavors and had them combined fairly well. On the palate, this one sat right at a medium in body with a slight sessionable aspect about it. Carbonation was pretty subdued and smooth. Overall, I say this was a pretty good porter to have again.

500ml bottle. Pours a dark mahogany brown, with a beige head. Roasted, malty, quite complex aroma, chocolate, licorice, ashes, butterscotch. Off-dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2. Roasted, spicy, malty taste, licorice, coffee beans, ashes, fudge, citrus, hops, chocolate. Quite classic for a porter, very drinkable. (2014-01-24)

Red-brown pour w/ a light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, toasty. Taste is a little creamy, roasted malt, a slight metallic taste. So-so lacing.
