COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This special holiday porter is made for winter - rich and warming, the way they like it at the North Pole. It was inspired by this famous line from a well-loved children’s storybook:

"And Santa sat on his great butt, enjoying a hardy brew..."

In case you find that amusing, the brewer hastens to point out that in England, "butt" refers to a certain sized barrel, in fact, holding 108 Imperial gallons. Back in the day it was quite a normal thing for a brewery to put its beer up in a large butt for storage. Still snickering, eh? Get your mind out of the gutter, or Santa will be skipping your house entirely this year.

Bottle at salhojankadun pub. Black color, medium white head disappears quickly. Aroma of coffee, roast, chocolate. Taste of roast, coffee and chocolate. Light body, quite watery taste. Some nice flavors but overall watery stout.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a mug. The appearance was a dark brown color close to black the further towards the center. There was a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. Light lacing slid into the beer. The smell had some roasty coffee to chocolate qualities with a light cinnamon, nuts and caramel coming through. The taste took those previously mentioned flavors and had them combined fairly well. On the palate, this one sat right at a medium in body with a slight sessionable aspect about it. Carbonation was pretty subdued and smooth. Overall, I say this was a pretty good porter to have again.

500ml bottle. Pours a dark mahogany brown, with a beige head. Roasted, malty, quite complex aroma, chocolate, licorice, ashes, butterscotch. Off-dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2. Roasted, spicy, malty taste, licorice, coffee beans, ashes, fudge, citrus, hops, chocolate. Quite classic for a porter, very drinkable. (2014-01-24)

Bottle as a Christmas gift. Great name butt that's about it. Weird aroma and similar after taste. Not good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Mmmm, this is good. Oily slick in head. Chocolate. This doesn’t taste like Santa’s butt at all. Thanks Tony.

Bottle at home, thanks to my inlaws for another new Xmas gift rate, 01/01/14. Pours an extremely dark shade of mahogony brown with a moderate light beige covering. Nose is cardboard, light cocoa, earthy, touch of spice, dark fruit tang. Taste comprises toffee, nutty notes, earthy cocoa, brown sugars, faint roast. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry finish. Very mediocre porter, lacks any great depth and a little overly sweet.

Type: 50cl (16.9 oz.) bottle Glass: Pint glass From: BevMo in Laguna Niguel, Calif. Price: $5.25 w/ BevMo card Purchased: Dec. 23, 2013 Consumed: Dec. 25, 2013 Misc.: N/A Poured a dark mahogany semi-clear color with one finger of khaki tan head. Minimal lacing along the sides of the glass. Below average retention. Smelled sugary malts, roasty malts, toast, nutty, caramel, toffee, cough syrup and faint coffee. Tasted quite bland. Nutty, toffee, caramel, roasty, toasty and slightly more bitter than the nose. Medium-to-full body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Soft carbonation. Bitter finish. Nothing special about this beer. I probably even overrated it a bit. Won’t try it again on purpose.
