3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
A straighforward, but well made, traditional English session bitter. Lots of green hops in the aroma and a quenching bite on the palate. Dry, clean finish. This should really be listed as a bitter, despite the name. Whilst some might find this a bit thin, it is a very good example of the session bitter style, hence the overall impression is greater than the sum of the parts. An ideal beer for putting down a few pints without too much in the way of analysis. Handpump, Head of Steam, Euston, London NW1.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
TAP GBBF 2003: Big hop nose - real British-like; clean amber/brown color; foamy head. Warm, roud body initially, chewy maltiness in the middle, bitter and metallic finsih. Clean palate and a decent balance. Typical British IPA and good all around.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Brown/gold in colour this has pine-like aromas. The body is thin, perhaps as expected. Doesn't excuse the fact that this is pretty thin.

2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
GBBF 2003: Very hopppy nose - like laying in a pile of fresh hops on a warm summerday. Light brown color, little hea, flat carbonation. Hoppy but thin and watery only short bitter finish. Starts good with the nose but goes down.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JUN 20, 2003 Cask Conditioned, a Masque Haunt, London
Golden to light amber in colour, it was a good clear, clean looking beer, with slight, lacy white head. Lightly aromatic. Good crisp, refreshing bitter hop flavour. Then body reflecting its ‘Pale Ale’ status. This is a quality IPA that punches well above its 3.5%ABV rating. The Masque Haunt, in Old Street is proving to be a pub that takes good care of its beers. So far the 3 sampled there this week have all been presented in pristine condition.

3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Sampled cask conditioned at Akkurat, Stockholm, Sweden.
Amber colour. Interesting candyish aroma with notes of flowers, oranges and licorice. Rather sweet and very light bodied. Delightfully drinkable, but the finish is slightly empty and metallic, and all the aromatic hoppiness in the nose has diminished to a vague hint of resin. Not exactly an Imperial IPA...
