GoufCustom (795) - HONG KONG - AUG 16, 2014

500ml bottle bought at Biorganic’s booth at HKCEC in Wan Chai during HKTDC Food Expo 2014.

Cloudy hazy amber honey colour with lots of dirt-like yeast sediments; Exposive three-finger head with crumpty off-white foam which lasts for 90 seconds; Moderate sticky lacing and very fizzy carbonation; Very fragment aroma of malt, with strong wheat, tartness, banana, caramel, vanilla, bubblegum, sugar, strong yeast, cloves, light spices and strawy grass; Low sweet taste of light malt, with heavy metallic, wheaty tartness, caramel, faint mashed banana, low phenolic, light cloves, strong spices, earth, strong yeast, light lemon, quite strong bitter hops and grass; Close to light body. Dry, crisp and slightly slick palate; Mouth feel is good barley and wheat maltyness in a slightly thicker body. Very metallic (not too annoying) with earthy strawy hops plus its darker colour gives it a pretty strong impression. Fair caramel, fairly low banana ester, matching light sweetness and dry crispiness somehow ease its heaviness. Hmm… Hoppiness is strawy grass in nose. Earth, spice, light lemon and grass in taste. Bitterness is very notable and quite bitter for a weiss, ended in an abrupt moderate-to-strong bitter finish; Dry crisp after taste. Bitter and earthy to mouth.

Comments: This one has that sorryful dark strawy look with short head retention, but you could never guess it’s taste is heavy all the way - metallic water, earthy bitter hops, and loads of yeast for underwhelming ester and cloves. It feels like a better version of Höss Weisser-Hirsch (that murky strawy looks, that’s why!), but too gloomy and heavy to be anywhere near the decent mark. Still drinkable but with some caution.

Hazy amber color with medium short-lasting white head. High carbonation. Aroma is spicy, clove and coriander are present, also banana and yeast. Taste is spicy as well, with strong clove traces, white pepper and coriander, together with banana and orange peel. Aftertaste is slightly hoppy.

Hazy body, golden, deutschhhhh head, diminishing fast, loose, no lacings. Aroma; spicy wheat malts, yellow apple, very mild hops, ripe fruits. Taste; fruity wheat malts, spices, toffee, apple, notes of ripe banana. To palate easy, smooth, slightly watery. Finishes into the sweet juicy wheat jungle. Overall alright, but there are hefeweizens with more spices and aftertaste than this one. 1/2L brown bottle 5.2% b@Alko.fi Mooonyo, tasted@home Norway.

Pours cloudy golden with an extremely big, frothy head. Aroma of wheaty maltiness, fairly much banana and some spiciness. Taste combines light sweet notes with sour elements, very well balanced. Overall impression points to malts rather than esters, though fruitiness features too. The palate is light, but not too light, the texture smooth and moderately carbonated. Nice, organic hefeweizen.

Decent hefeweizen, taste is quite mild and easy, still very enjoyable. Not remarkable but good beer.

50cl, Alnatura FR. This is indeed a quite lovely, almost "Spitzenklasse" Weisse,...Hell. Standout feature is the delicate, Tettnang incl.? hop profile over fruity, yet mainly dry quality wheat. Green apples, peaches, with a green grass and wildflower prickle. No real flaws, although the colour is a particularly murky milky yellow and the yeast leaves a hint of aspartame aftertaste. Going into summer rotation.

Peppery yeasty wheat aroma from the dark and golden cloudy beer. Taste doesn't come through as strong which is fine by me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled. Hazy yellowish orange colour with a mediumsized white head. Aroma is mild floral notes along with some wheat, toffee and slightly herbal notes. Flavour is wheat, toffee, some bready malts along with herbs and some yeasty notes. Quite a "bold" mouthfeel, and the beer foams a bunch while drinking.
