shrubber85 (2495), Wallhalben, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany Jul 20, 2008 Swing-top bottle. Brown sugar, wheat and spelt malt aroma. Cloudy brown-orange color with small head. Chestnut/spelt malt flavor. Moderate carbonation. Very nice beer - especially interesting with it’s historical background.
DerWeg (432), Tronna, Ontario, Canada Aug 9, 2008 Swing Bottle from Natural Food Market, Volksdorf. What the hell is this - the grain profile is really unusual to me. Medium dark cloudy amber color and aroma is sour-yeasty and lightly hoppy. Presents like a Wheat in the cloudiness, medium head and texture. Sweetish honey+biscuit malt profile with some interesting complex acidity and a light tingle of hops. Interesting and I feel obliged to drink more. KnutAlbert (2177), Oslo, Norway Jun 26, 2008 Bottle bought in Berlin.
I don’t really know. Some of these dunkle hefe beers really look like shit, this one inkluded.
Soft wheaty flavour, some malty sugar, Some nuttiness, a little bitter walnut in the finish. More interesting than really good - I don’t regret the fact that we have moved on to more sophisticated grains. Mostly for the tree-hugging market, I assume. darkseduction (110), Zweibrücken, Germany May 25, 2008 Bottle 50cl. Pours a muddy brown brew with a small but stable ebony head. In the nose a bit breadish, grainy. NIce velvet texture, hints of roaasted nuts and grains. Very pleasant to drink although carbonisation rather flat. Another one! Dedollewaitor (2041), Odense, Denmark Apr 14, 2008 Thanks to my buddy Massive: 50 cl bottle @ Berlin. Pours extremely muddy brown with a creamy white head. Sweet aroma of malts, grain, bread & caramel. Thin palate. Rye bread all over. Very uncomplicated & uninteresting.
