Emmer wheat was used together with Einkorn and Spelt into the late middle ages in all of europe.
We are using this precious, uncrossed grain for your untarnished drinking pleasure. This beer naturally contains lots of protein, vitamins and minerals. That is why we leave it unfiltered.
Brewed for the historic festival of the city Riedenburg. More information on emmerbier.de

Serving: from bottle--purchased at Allendörfer. Aroma: lightly apple-like aroma. Appearance: average, rocky, off-white, initial head with fair lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Cloudy, red body. Taste: lightly sour initial flavor and moderately sweet, caramel finish with average duration. Palate: medium body, watery texture and soft carbonation. Overall: very good, easy to drink and interesting.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2015 From bottle at the brewery, tasted during the FoodCamp Oberpfalz visit. Cloudy dull amber-brown with a fine off-white head. Clove and brown banana esters and peppery phenols show easily that this is a warm-fermented wiessebier at its core, though it seems paper-y and possibly oxidized, though that could be the expression of the emmer wheat. It’s toasty and bready and has a quality that’s almost like roast / over-kilned malt. Medium-light bodied, sweet with relatively low bitterness, it’s slick and creamy though still seems watery, and finishes slightly sour with some paper and husk off-notes.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @ home. It’s light brown and hazy with a smooth, average sized tan head. Aroma is a bit vinous and spicy + herbal with maltiness, raisins, black, pepper, sour red fruits, syrup, caramel and toffee and hints of chocolate. Smooth texture with surprisingly small body. Taste of caramel, spices, grains, nuts, malt, a little grass and lemon. Lingering bread notes. Finish is dry and nutty with some card board and low spicy bitterness. Quite odd aroma.

Pours a dark cloudy amber color with very little head. You can almost see the thick texture of the beer, like a stout. Faint aromas of ripe fruit and coffee(?). The specialty grains give the beer a unique flavor that is quite nice, but it’s not very balanced...too sweet, not enough bite.

Dark reddish amber color, with a very big initial head. Low carbonation, medium to watery body, texture is little oily. Aroma is toasted malt and herbs. Taste is toasted malt, spicy, herbs, caramel, low sweetness and almost no bitterness. Aftertaste is short, dry and low sweetness.
